Default Roadster Detent Cable Replacement

When releasing the latch on the top and pushing it up, it falls down. The problem is the cable that holds it up, has stretchered and can no longer hold the right length to hold the top. There is one reference in the manual, however is the usual brief description.

Detent Cable

We can't find replacement, but one of the members have created a batch. I was able to order from Charles.

Replacement Cable

The cable is routed through a strap on the second bow. You can not remove the cable through this strap without damage.

Retraining strap at second bow

Note this should be done at top replacement. Here is the instructions
Removal:

1) Unbolt the torx scew at the front bow. Place the brass spacer and screw in a safe spot. Don't leave it on top of the bow, you will forget and loose it. ( I know from experience )
2) Cut the strap off the spring. I started with cutters but had to switch to a razor and saw the material it's tough but should have been metal.

Might want to use a razor

3) using a razor cut the strap in half. This is so you can salvage the retaining strap on the second bow.

Cut you like a knife

4) Pull the material through the strap and remove the pin at the rear.

Note the plastic pin.

5) Using the replacement cable put the metal pin into the clip. Thread the cable through the retaining strap at the second bow. To put the new cable on the spring, use channel locks to slightly compress the spring at the end to slip on the cable.

6) Tilt the front bow to 45 degrees and hand thread the M8-1.0 Torx screw into the brass spacer back into the rubber bushing into the frame. (Too many intos?) Then tighten the bolt.

One side will not hold the top off, both sides have to be done before the top stays up.

Hi Xintersecty,
Thanks for the write up. For now my Detent cables seem okay, but for future reference can you say what Charles's handle is so we can email him directly.
Thanks, sincerely
-Jerry
