Default Goodbye crossfire hello???

The car is lemoned...MSRP for MSRP (35K minimum) I have to pick another vehicle in the next three days from the Daimler Chrysler group...There are no other crossfires on island (except an SRT) so crossfires are out... so....if you had a choice between:

1) Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
2) Jeep Commander Limited
3) Chrysler 300C (with a Hemi)
4) Dodge Durango (with a Hemi)
5) Something else that I may have overlooked...???

Long of the short is that I will have to pick something soon.

~ Jess

LMK what you think.

I would choose the 300c. If you could wait I would get the jeep grand cherokee srt-8.

not on your list but... if you could swing it & its available... i would do an 300 srt-8. its still rare like the crossfire & one heck of a car... inside & out.

i'm not a huge chrysler fan but the srt versions still do it for me. the main reason i went for the crossfire was its true germany engineering & uniqueness. a regular "run of the mill" chrysler product isn't very desirable to me.

just my personal opinion... others will vary.

I did not see the SRT-6 on your list? The dealer won't work with you on it or DC said no deal? Just curious. Also, You might consider the Dodge Charger with the Hemi, unless it's not available. Just my .02. Glad to see DC did right by you. Good luck!

aloha... if you are still intrigued by the crossfire, i would push for another... even if they do not stock it on the island, they can ship one.

after all it is DC's responsibility 2 stand behind their product. and the likelihood of you getting another lemon is like... ahhh... ummm.... like getting hit by lightning twice!!! maybe three times for you as i recall you said something about another car you had that was lemoned...

should you decide to demand another... until that new XF comes to the island, DC should cover a rental or mini lease for you. wow... you bought a car, gave them your money... and you were unconvinced to say the least!!! so they need to assist you until your replacement arrives... play hardball!!!

look you are asking 4 suggestions as to what vehicle you should get... DON'T SETTLE... YOU DO HAVE THE LAW ON YOUR SIDE.

LIKE ANDREW, I AM NOT A CHRYSLER FANATIC... THE CROSSFIRE GRABBED ME BECAUSE OF ITS S L K SOUL! AND BECAUSE I ONLY BUY AMERICAN, THIS WORKED OUT PERFECT FOR ME... ITS AN AMERICAN CHRYSLER.

GOOD LUCK DO NOT SETTLE PLAY HARDBALL.

Charger SRT!!! Yeah Baby!! That's what I'd get. Or... Why doesn't chrysler just buy you an srt off ebay?? It be smart if they did on their part.. They'd be saving money, considering they could scoop one up for about $30K!!

Jess, I've got nothing against any of the cars that you mentioned, but the way I see it, When the Air Force orders a Fighter Jet, and it's a lemon, the company that builds them doesn't replace it with a cargo plane.
In other words, you bought a 2 seat sports roadster for a reason. (you live in paradise and you enjoy top down driving) and as far as I can tell, none of those cars fit the bill. I'd tell them to order you another one from the main land, and in the mean time, give you a super short term lease until your new car arrives.

It was a knock down drag out fight to get the regional manager to get me an "MSRP for MSRP" trade supported by ISG (???). He said that there was no "3 time repair", etc, and that the law is on his side. My attorney says he is right, so I have to be careful what I "demand". I drove the Cherokee Overland limited with a hemi...I wish the crossfire was that fast!! Maybe it just feels fast, but OMG!!!

ISG is supposed to contact me in the next 72 hours and iron out the details. I paid more than retail (cause its Hawaii)...so he is uncertain as to what the actual dollar amount is. Also, he "thinks" that I have to buy something at the same price or more...but he is not sure. Bottom line is ISG will tell me everything.

I really like the SRT-8 and SRT-10, unfortunately, all SRT's sold by Windward pull a $10,000 above MSRP price (they still have a brand new SRT-10 Viper on the showroom floor). The cheapest I could hope for is full MSRP on the SRT-6 with probably all of the same problems that mine had.

They have an SRT-8 Charger and I was "told" that if I offered 5k over MSRP, that they would probably take it. If they pay me the "MSRP" from my invoice, then I can swing it no problem. Although it rides really rough...I was a little disappointed. The Cherokee felt nearly as nimble, but very refined for an SUV. The Commander feels like a H3 from behind the wheel.

300C's bring a premium...

decisions decisions decisions...

Thanks for the input!

~ Jess

Jess, I guess I spoke up before I knew all the facts. I was just going by what I've read a few others who "lemon lawed" their cars got, and I figured that you were entitled to the same offer. Obviously things are alot different on the Island.
I'm glad you liked some of the cars that they offered you also. If it were me, I'd be in trouble, because even though all the cars you mentioned are really nice, they're just not my "type" of car that's all.
I've always lived by the motto, "If it isn't a 2 seater, then it must be a family car." But after hearing about all the problems that you had with your XF, I don't think anybody can blame you for not wanting to take a chance on another one.
What ever you get, I hope you decide to stay with the forum, I think everyone will agree, we'd all miss you if you left.
Mike

Thanks Mike.

I don't like any of the cars either...this was my retirement gift to me for 20+ years in the Army. I have been told that the Grand Cherokee has the best resale value, so I may go with it. Option 2 is trade in my wife's Xterra at the same time, get her whatever she wants (as long as its that V8 Cherokee), and just buy what I want later...(vette, X-Fire off Ebay, muscle car, etc). I really wish the challenger was already here. Maybe I should order one and just get a island hoopty til then. :-)

~ Jess

BTW: The aforementioned Viper is a 2004...

Jess, I'm on my 5th Jeep Grand Cherokee now so obviously I'm a fan. I use the Jeep for the crummy days in NY and the Crossfire for the nicest ones. You can't go wrong with any of them IMO but that new GC SRT8 is unbelievable but they aren't making them in any significant #'s. I love the Commander LTD but unless you need the 3rd row seating it’s the same car as the regular GC. To get such a large vehicle without the need seems a waste. I love the GC and for sheer comfort if I had to choose between my Crossfire and my GC it’s not even a choice, the GC is the better everyday all purpose car. But after 20 years in the military you need the Crossfire or a car like it for your head! Best of luck with your choice.

Interesting thread. My buddy who has a base coupe like mine is in the same shoe as ALOHAXFIRE. His door is not aligning correct thus serious wind noise. The dealer gave him option to choose anything they have on their lot for exchange. His dilemma is that there is one SRT-6 on the lot and they want $29,000 for it (so $9,000 more out of pocket). He does not want it because it is Automatic. He wants another base coupe. Somewhere in this forum there was a comment that there are boatloads of '05 Crossfires at the dock. If that is true, why can't they get him one of those? Let us know which one you choose ALOHAXFIRE.

I went through the same thing in California. ISG is "Impartial Services Group" a third party negotiator for Chrysler. I got the 72 hour call back too. I was offered the MSRP for MSRP too. They also offered a "Buyback".
I received back every penny I spent during the 13 months I had my '04 Limited. That allowed me to buy an SRT. I found an SRT for $34,000 in Sept. '05 in Denver. I had it shipped to Cali.
I'd ask about the buyback. It's probably not information they'd volunteer unless you coerce it out of them.
If you get your money back, try finding an SRT with a couple miles on it from the mainland then have it shipped to your rock. May work out to be a decent deal. Mahalo.

Great news! I hope they buy it back, that would make this all a lot easier as they don't have what I want on the island. I would love to find one that has not been sitting in the salt air! God Bless!

Jess, do you have any idea what it would cost to have a car shipped from Calif.? Just wondering if you had checked out that possibility.

Thanks Dan, I was curious to know, just in case Jess should happen to get a cash by out offer. So Chrysler wouldn't have anything to do with it.
I was wondering how much it would cost him to get something from the mainland, that's all.
Actually a $1,000 isn't that bad. When I was in Oahu in 1972, I stopped in a new car dealer to see what the shipping was on a car I was about to buy back home. From Kenosha Wis. to Oahu it was $442, vs $42 from Kenosha to Akron, Ohio. Not a bad increase for 33 years.

it is actually $1,500 right now, but I have a couple of hook ups. Got the car back tonight...drove great until I had 9 miles on it...it goes into gear better, but pops out mid range where before it was popping out at clutch engagement...5 times in the 22 miles to get home. And then it started raining (on me) again... I am done. I just hope I get all my money back like "good enough" did.

Thanks again guys, and I will keep you posted.

PS: The dealer scratched the heck out of the paint too...
