SL55 AMG V8 Intake Conversion

It should be quite comperable; if not better, to the other systems since it eliminates almost all of the restrictions and is still grabbing true cold air.

Code3 has an intake mod for less than 100 bucks that's been dyno tested with his pulley it gained almost 20 hp. I'd check it out first before changing to the sl55 intake.
Look at the SL55 fact, fiction or myth link. It has the numbers for, BDJ, NW and SL55 intakes.

I provided the MB part numbers on the first post of this thread - shop around for prices - for me LET was the lowest cost.
the sl55 intake is just that, the factory intake on the sl55's. we flow bench tested all of them, the sl55 intake does flow more than the srt6 factory intake but less than our single CAI
from here.....although I'm not sure where the SL55 boxes have been tested to 15"WG, if anyone has a loink - much appreciated.

the main restriction on the V6 is the Y-pipe. If you study it closely it nips down quite markedly at that point.
The NW CAI, DCAI and SL55's all have larger Y-pieces.
Based on my engine model....the CAI should give a stock motor
- a 74/155 at redline = +4 to 6rwhp for the CAI and +6 to 8rwhp for the DCAI = very noticeable.
Many have reported better bottom end delivery and throttle response as well.
But if you are going for a pullied setup, the gains are more because the air flow is much more (730 v 580cfm at WOT /w stock air boxes)
- a 62/155 at redline = +7 to 9rwhp for the CAI and +9 to 11rwph for the DCAI = nothing to be sneezed at.
While you're at it Blueyes .....if you want to keep yourself busy....
Try looking around at the 82mm Trottle body and SC intake mods PN 2731410325, or 80mm (easier) PN 1131400104 or PN 1371410125.
Which will give you another 4-6rwph by opening up the throttle gallery and supercharger inlet at the 730cfm levels (62/155 setup)
The Y-piece fits onto the TB, so should be sized accordingly with your intake/filter system, there are many out there.
One thing always leads to another....
All the info is either here or over at mbworld on the C32 and SL55 forums.
Word of caution - If you are going 62mm pulley route instead of the 65mm with the intake upgrade, after the intakes - do the fuel upgrades and get an AFR gauge before the pulley otherwise there is a heightened risk of going way lean (reportedly) and frying your motor.
decision process would go something like......
65mm....happy?>No...DCAI...happy?>No....Tune....ha ppy?>No.....Supercooler, Water Pump, Fuel Pump, Lambda and Logger setup (or at least AFR gauge)>Check!....62mm+ Tune....happy?>No....save more money....;>)...stay tuned for our next episode folks....
happy?>yes...enjoy!

All I can say is that years and years later - this is the best performance mod I made.
That is to say - just about any intake mod you do will provide great results.
Second best mod you will make is a pulley - once you give your SC 3.2L more breath... it's time to "force feed" a little more air. And I have my favorite pulley as well...
Third... get a decent tune......
I enjoyed modifying my SRT6 - what?? - going on six years ago now!!
With the exception of the idler pulley failure - I've never had problem one. The SRT6 always passes California smog. I still have both Cats - (but they are hot swappable) I still have the OEM muffler.
That's six years of instant throttle response on the freeway during my 35 mile M-F commute .... and tons of fun in the canyons....
And posting the fastest times ever recorded with a SRT6.. Period...
And my favorite part...
All the mods totaled under $2K....... enjoyed being the first owner to venture out and install each one of these mods.. and enjoyed sharing it with you all...
The SRT6 never grows old with me..... nor will this forum or the members...

Just wanted to check a couple of things...
1) Does the part number
113 090 01 29
Fit directly onto our stock Throttle body?
I found a
113 094 01 03
and this web site says it fits SL55 AMG 2003-2006
AIR DISTRIBUTOR | Genuine Mercedes-Benz | 113-094-01-03
maybe same part - different car????
2) Can you change the Y-pipe for the SL55 and still use the stock air hoses/filter boxes...?
I'd imagine its a different inlet dia.
Maybe I'd need a pair of silicone reducers.
Thinking of doing a staged install to evaluate improvement.
(seem to recall people only changing the Y-pipe??).

The way I've read it, goes as follows:
82mm Y Pipe - Part #: A 113 090 03 29
82mm Throttle Body - Part #: A 273 141 03 25
Throttle Body Gasket -Part #: A 113 141 07 80
SC Inlet Gasket - Part #: A 137 141 07 80
Read more: F/S 82mm Throttle Body + Y-Pipe - MBWorld.org Forums
The 113 094 01 03 is for the 82mm "Y" pipe only, which is no longer sold separately anymore.
The A 113 090 03 29 is for the full 82mm assembly which includes the "Y" pipe , both hoses and clamps, and is the only way to get a new Y pipe.
I did manage to procure a used assembly from the salvage yard for around $70. Just make sure that both upper and lower tabs are present on the Y-pipe for a direct snap-on fit.
If you find one with broken tabs dicker the price down . It's still useable with a screw-clamp.

looks like one might be broken off.
Anyways - will this click fit straight onto our stock TB?
But...my old hoses wont obviously fit - I'd have to get some matching silicone pipes if I wanted to use the old boxes. Or make the ones shown fit.

How I installed mine... clicked right on. No tools needed.
