Storing or...?
Ok, similar threads have been posted previously, but with so many new owners, I figured I put the question out there again.
How many of you are putting the car into storage permanently as a collection piece? After learning just how rare the car is, I've definitely lowered my annual milage. I'm not going to exceed 4k if possible.

Absolutely not. It's to much fun to drive and besides storing a car does nothing good for the engine gaskets etc when the car isn't driven. I put 10,000 miles on last summer and might again this summer if I make it to some of the events such as
"Tail of the Dragon" (600 miles) from home. Being in Chicagoland it doesn't get a lot of miles in the winter because I won't drive it on wet salty roads but it is never stored either. When we have a clear dry day it's out for a drive. I have not had to park it for more than 18 days at any one time so far this winter.
I would like to own it forever but it's not realistic that I will. I only hope someone will have one with many less miles when it comes time to replace it. The one thing for sure is most owners value these cars and take very good care of them.

i would not suggest it... I don't think it is worth it.. you may be able to sell it after 30 years for an elevated price, but is it really worth keeping and pampering for so long?
I enjoy mine as a daily driver except for the days with bad weather.. 27k miles on my car so far... with no regrets..
and afterall there is almost 3k srts build it is not THAT rare.. many other amg cars have had even less built, but will prolly never really become a very expensive collectable.. I know our car is exclusive in many ways that the typical amgs are not, but still I don't think it is worth it..

I went into this first winter of owning mine thinking I would store it for three months or so. I couldn't stand it though and drive it on nice days. I have been caught in the rain and snow a couple of times though. But I love driving it too much to store it. I drove my Integra over 250k before giving it to my son. I plan to do the same with my Crossfire.
I intend to keep both of mine for a long time. Therefore they are summer drivers to stay away from salt and sliding cars. I don't think they will ever be real valuable but it would be nice to drive a cherry Xfire in 20-30 years. They get stored over the winter although I take them out every 2-4 weeks when the roads are dry just to loosen everything up.
I had a 48 Chevy pickup that I stored all winter and every spring I would have leaks and stuff from dried up gaskets. It was better to keep it running on the nicer winter days.
I would only worry about mileage if you intend to sell it someday. I put 26k on the roadster over three summers and I intend to drive the SRT6 a lot this summer to shake out any warranty issues before that expires. IMHO, I get more value driving these babies than I ever will making a slim (or none) profit selling them many years down the road. Besides, I think my kids want them.

I too drive mine at least every two weeks when the roads are dry. When I get home I back it back into my heated garage and give it a overall quick detail with the detail spray and then just sit and look at it for a couple of minutes and dream that summer is here and I will be driving it again each day.
I have never hated winter this much as long as I have lived.

Drive it into the ground. Why let someone else enjoy driving it, when you you can have fun and let them watch you enjoy it before you croak. One life, many cars, maybe more in heaven
You bought it for a reason and it shouldnt be to clean it with a diaper cloth nightly in your garage. Nice being in the south, dont have to worry about snow, salt, and sand.
I don't plan on moth balling it by no means, but I do plan on keeping the mile's down on it. I've had it 15 months now and only has 2,963 miles on it, it's only seen rain two times - the day I brought it home and I got caught in a little shower when it was not suppost to rain. It has only been wash two times, both time was after it was rained on. It won't be coming out of the heated garage till the spring rains has washed the salt off the roads here in Indiana. I agree it probably won't be a collector car, but it will be a rare bird in 10 or so years.
I store mine from Dec 15 to Mar 15. I don't want to get it all salted up. But I would LIKE to keep the miles down, but I doubt I will. It's just soooooooooooo much fun to drive. And the way I see it, I'm not paying $500 a month just to LOOK at it.
The limited is my wife's daily. The SRT is my fun car that I only take out when it's nice. Have had it 4 months and put less than 1k miles on it. But then, summer isn't here yet
I store mine from October 1 to May 1 (approx.) each year.
It was bought as a summer/weekend toy and is used as such. Plan on putting between 1,000 and 2,000 miles/year on it.
I will probably hold on to it for years and years.
The Accord and 4Runner are the daily drivers.
I hope the SRT6 is the first among many cars I get to collect and enjoy.
In this neck of the woods, it is very common for people to store cars over the winter.

I'm pretty much like RPM. Parked from Nov.1 till the first big spring road washing rain storm. It is just our fun weekend car so will only see limited use. I drive 1000 miles a week for work so weekend trips are few.
I try not to drive mine in the winter, but if the roads are dry and pretty clean, I can't help but take it for a quick spin. I've only taken it out twice this winter. Once, I ended up having to wash it due to the salt and hitting some wet spots. The second time it stayed clean. Man, I miss the West Coast, but at least this gives me an excuse to keep the miles down.
