Default Lets get a list of SRT engine mods here

Hi guys , hope I am not rehashing an old thread but I am finding bits and bobs all over the place. Can we get a complete list of ALL the successful engine modifications right here on one thread OR someone chime in and give us a link to any existing links . I am talking pulleys, intake , ECU , you name it really. Thanks in advance.

The SC whine is nice! You willl like it...it is a bit addictive actually.

Not an engine mod, but a Radar Dector is a must for a SRT6, especially a modded one.

I have been reviewing radar detectors and havent decided if they are really worth the cost. What do you think and what brand? Do any of you have the laser jammers?

Forgot to say. Just ordered the SL55 intake system from LET. Will also be adding the ASP pulley kit from NW, ECU tune, Iridium plugs and removing the resonator. This will probably get me into enough trouble.

For me, I drive a bit too fast and the radar detector has saved my A$$ on more than one occasion (worth its weight in gold in my mind!) Once you add higer insurance rates to the cost of the ticket, the price of a good radar detector is recouped rather quickly...in some states from just one save.

I don't want to get into a radar detector war on this tread, so I will say you will be covered if you focus on an Escort or Valentine 1 and shop features/reviews/cost from there. That is what I did years ago and have been happy since. PM me if you have other questions.

The cheapest alternative is to Not speed of course...

Cheers,

Im gonna go ahead and say no on the radar detector. Well kinda...

I had a Valentine 1(one of the best) for a few years and it went off constantly in the city. It got so annoying i would turn the damn thing off!!! On the highway it was helpful so long as the cop was clocking cars in front of you. If your the first he hits or waits a while in between radars your SOL. It will sound off but by then your usually toast.

Playing devils advocate we had an srt-6 on our lot with one of those super badass built in radar detectors. Funny thing is i laughed at it at first. I turned onto the service road and went to the stopsign and made a right. I got up to about 55 in a 35mph zone and it screamed at me so i nailed the brakes. Low and behold as soon as i came over a hill there was a cop sitting there! It 100% saved my ***.

The only thing is from what ive seen cops use their radars spontaneously more often than they just sit there and let them scan. So for the $$$ im gonna say no.

Another mod to add to that list is Shrick Camshafts... most of the information about them is on mbworld, benzworld, and slk forums...

I dont know the brand. I was more or less being funny saying someone spent a small fortune on it. Its one of those that have the piece up in the license plate and its hardwired into the car where you cant see the unit, they drilled holes near the instrument cluster to mount the display lights for a very clean almost stock looking appearance.

Mike,

I am shopping for a new detector myself. Been doing a lot of resarch. The Escort 9500i is one of the best rated. Valentine is good as well so is the Bel Pro RX65. I used to have one. My current detector is a few years old and it is supposed to jam as well. It is made by RMR (Rockey Mountain Radar) and I have received tickets with it. I think it was when they used Laser but nevertheless, I have read reviews that they don't work well at all. I am going for a Cobra XRSR9G this time around. It has a remote install with a VERY cool remote for inside the car that you place anywhere that is about the size of a Motorola Sliver Cell phone for all the read outs. Since the Crossfire is limited on room inside and anything hanging from the visor may be distracting and in line of sight, I am trying one out.

Steve

Needswings has some aluminum intake plenums in progress, as well as exhaust. I'm not sure if the Heat Exchanger or Headers from LET are done/ready yet.

That should get you started

Default Mods needed for my SRT-6

I'm looking for the following products and I'm not interested in home made solutions. I want to keep the OEM reliability while improving handling and some performance. Everyones input would be truly appreciated. I can't wait to show everybody the final product.

-cold air intake system
-limited slip differential
-adjustable shocks or upgraded from OEM shocks
-1" spring lowering kit
-forged wheels
-best brake pads, front & rear, for track day use
-the best quality transmission & rear axle fuilds available
- any light weight aluminum suspension components that are available

Thanks a million for any input.

Thanks a million for any input.
-cold air intake system - SL55 Intake (MB OEM) - With K&N's
-limited slip differential - ??? Perhaps Phatom Grip ???
-adjustable shocks or upgraded from OEM shocks - KONI
-1" spring lowering kit - Eibach
-forged wheels- Take your Pick
-best brake pads, front & rear, for track day use - Porterfield pads - ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid - Goodrige SS brake lines
-the best quality transmission & rear axle fuilds available - Stick with the OEM
- any light weight aluminum suspension components that are available - SRT's have a bad a$$ suspension - You will probably need to remove your parts and take them to fabricator for custom builds.

That's a great list. Which of these require an ECU retune? Which are DIY and which should be left to pros?

I was thoroughly impressed with the SRT-6's ability to 'adapt' to mods on its own. I was skeptical that the pulley and intake systems would work so well without a tune, but some folks on this forum have made great numbers (on the track) without a tune.

I'd say the following would require a tune:

Schrick Cams
181 & 185 mm pulley
Nitrous possibly
Or a combo of the above.

A tune will HELP with any of them though - and, tunes are available from people other than those listed on LET and Renntech. Speed Innovations and I believe at least one other offers a tune that is more affordable.

Is there a suggested order for any of them? Should one do phenolic spacers before pulleys, for example? Or a new header?

Theoretically, it would be a good idea to get all of the 'cooling' mods out of the way first, and THEN upgrade your boost (pulley).

BUT, that is tough to do. It seems that intake comes first, then pulleys, then cooling mods...

Although the pulleys should likely be last, they wont hurt anything if they are first (you just wont get their full potential).

If Cams are in the works, you may as well go ahead and put the pulley on while you have everything apart. While you're at it, you may as well get spacers, and why not port that S/C while it's off? Oh wait, the engine is torn apart so there is room to work on it - may as well throw a set of headers on it. You get where i'm going with this...if funds were unlimited, you'd do it all at once!
