Default first mod and it is free

I was looking at the air intake where it comes through the radiator support and through the grille if you put your hand through the grille ,,try to reach the air intake hole in the radiator support, you can't the grille has a upward peice if the grille that forces the air upward, (I am talking about the second vertiablebar in the grille) well i cut it on each side of the hor, bar and then heated it and bent it stright now i can almost touch the intake hole and the next vert. bar below it still has the sweep in it with this mod only i will test it on the track and see if it improves the ait to the SC. I know there is twice the amount of air getting to the opening than before. jim

I did the same thing, but i cut the piece rather than heat and bend. Good job. It has to help.

Ok, I have to ask... What in the world are you talking about man? What is vertiablebar? Also, did you cut up some (w) hor (e) you met at some (w) hor (e) bar? Geez, that is a terrible thing to do!

I think Jim is talking about the "airfoil" on the back of the horizontal slats in the grill. As far as I can tell, they are only there to prevent one from looking through and seeing the radiator. He removed the horizontal flow restriction and made a clear path to the air intakes.

Am I right, Jim?

I have been thinking about cutting off all of those deflectors on the grill bars to improve the air flow. I dont care if you can see my radiator.

The only person who would see it at that angle is being run over, anyhow!

yes you are right the only thing i did was cut a slit on each side and then melt the plastic and strighten it out so the flow would go stright to the opening. thank maxcichon, iithink we got it now. jim

I don't actually have my car in my possession at the moment, so I can't just go out into my garage and check out what it is everybody is talking about.
But if the "air foil" directs air away from the air intake snorkel, might it not serve another purpose as well? Such as deflecting "rain water" from entering the snorkel at speed?
Sorry Jim, I'm not trying to "rain on your parade" (no pun intended) I was just playing "devils advocate" and asking a question.

I've known Jim (amx1397) for several years from the PT Cruiser forum we both frequent - a board really centered around the performance aspects of that car. His typing skills may leave a lot to be desired, but the guy knows his stuff and isn't afraid to try anything with his cars when it comes to performance. Look at his sig - he's got a 12 second daily driver PT Cruiser for chrissakes!!!!

Mike,
I don't think anyone was dissin' Jim. Just trying to clarify.

Now, to the OTHER AMX (without the car ), I thinks that if it's raining, water is gettin' in there with or without a grill at all.

Or, I could be full of it?

Dunno'.

useing the stock intake system even if water got into the opening there is a hole in the bottom under the filterdor drain anything that gets in there ,,, with my car running i just took a water hose and tried to get water into the intake ,by spraing water directly at the intake holes in the grille,, hood colsed reveing the motor and spraying,, ,,nothingwas found under the filters, but got some draining(drops) under the slincers where the corgated hose connects to the filter housing on both sides you would have to be in a hurricane to get water into the intake, and i don't think it would happen then either. jim
