You guys have it so so good.....UK fuel unleaded @ £6.00 per gallon and incressing,
Diesel fuel is even more expensive. Vehicle road licence (Tax) for my 06 Xfire is £400.00 and incressing next year. I have a clean driving licence and have passed retirment age but still I can't insure my Xfire for less than £360.00. per year
Transport companys are laying off staff and closing down, even small local taxi firms are going bust, the fuel cost in the UK is out of control.
And added to that, a goverment that has no idea how to run the country. If our prime minister Gordon Brown was Captain of the "Titanic" after hiting the iceburg and starting to sink would probably ask," what water".. Just log on to any UK news station and you will see the mess that the UK is in, and perhaps then understand my fuel cost grip.

what Ken hasn’t said (but implied), and indeed this will be true of other countries too, is that the majority of what we pay the the pump is tax. The cost of petrol and diesel is artificially high here because of the rise in fuel duty.
The road tax for the Crossfire in the UK is £400 per annum, this will rise next year when the road tax bands change. This is to encourage people to buy less polluting cars, and with the apparent CO2 output of the Crossfire, there won’t be any drop in price for us.
Here's the stinger though. The road tax increase is backdated. Any car registered after 2000 (ie 2001 onwards) is subject to this increase. The kicker is that your average family saloon will suddenly cost more to just keep on the road. My girlfriend's Vauxhall Zafira will have a larger than normal tax hike (I believe that the % increase will be greater than for the Crossfire). The Ford Focus will get hit too. It’s not just the luxury or sport car which is being targeted - it’s your average family car too. The aim was to go after the 4x4 and SUV drivers.
Even Greenpeace have criticised this. Scrapping a relatively new car in favour of a new, more efficient one is more ecologically unsound than properly maintaining your existing car. It’ not a “green tax” they say – it’s just a revenue building exercise and will undoubtedly encourage the wrong kind of behaviour.
It will also depress the second hand car market. Any car registered before 2001 will suddenly be worth more than those registered after that date because of the tax issue. Newer second hand cars will drop in value, making the market unbalanced.
The other question is - if you bought a car in 2002, how were you to know that this tax hike would be applied six years on?
Apparently, this whole retrospective tax thing is going to be looked at again, but I suspect that it will be a paper exercise. There is no money in the Government’s pot to absorb a climb-down on this and retain future spending plans. Next year, we'll be feeling the pinch even more than we do now.

Running lower octane in your SRT-6 may or may not harm the engine. depends on who you talk too. There are opinions and some with engineering backgrounds that can speak better than I.
That said, my question relates not so much to the engine but to why you would own such a vehicle, essentially a bonafide street racer, and dumb down the performance?
The milage lost by the detuned power plant would not pay for the per gallon savings. And if you're using 89 Octane an are challenged on the street, what do you do? If you're not going to answer the Hot Mustang sitting next to you barking his V/8, why buy the horsepower in the first place?
Not putting you down. Just from my perspective, why would you drive a highpowered exotic like it was a Taurus?
If you want milage, trade it for an NA. Go from 24/15 to 27/23 MPG. And do it in the same sexy body.
I can guarrantee a dozen guys here would be interested in a swap. And some gals too.

We as Americans have been addicted to CHEAP LABOR, CHEAP IMPORTS, AND CHEAP ENERGY.\\
That is over and we need to not have a society that has credit card debts over 10,000 to 80,000 dollars at interest rates WELL above 20%..................
Things are changing NOW and to overlook it means that there is less time to swerve out of the way of the CRUNCH that is coming. I have been preparing for years and there is so much happening that even I can not keep up.
In 1936 the University of Pa. Had a professor of chemistry try to suggest that we stop the burning of oil as a simple thermal fuel. Its properties are too important as a source of chemicals and should not be thought of as a fuel to burn.
The real issue is about 12 to 20 months out...........fertilizer is made from energy typically oil and NATURAL GAS. Ammonia, that is very important to our ability to grow food. The food riots are yet to grab the attention of the world. This will TRUMP ALL OTHER ITEMS IN A HURRY.
Energy issues brought on the First and Second world wars, ask Germany and Japan, which were restricted before the outbreak of hostilities
I never addressed the environment issues, there are others that can grind that Ax. Nuclear is another option but the start-up in a crash program is about 8-12 years.
Our fuel is cheap, ask Europe. I am not concerned for the cost that does not bother me..............I am concerned that we have it available.
As an OLD DUDE I remember the even odd day gas deal in the 1970's.......That is what killed my 1973 Dodge Challengers line in 1974....................OOPS in 2008 Dodge Challenger will suffer a similar fate I fear.
We are fortunate here and I am glad to be above 60 as I wont have to depend on gas for long, it will be at a premium soon enough, but having been on "The Other Side", and come back, I don't worry anymore, and thus my saying Life is short.......
