Talking Getting down and dirty with your car...sorta

Well I had really been puzzeled by the micro fiber cloths I dry the srt with. They are really great the first time you use them. After going thru the washer ( no I wash them after each use ) they dont work so well.

I can wash and then dry the car with 2 towels if they are new, but if washed once they are not like any other towel.???

I have used a fabric softner, did not use one, tried hot and also cold, still nothing? One day one of my customers was using one and I described my problem and she told me the secret.

After washing these GREAT towels, just air dry them. Don't use a dryer as the micros get an attitude, dude.

Hope this is of interest , FYI.

Drying them in the high heat dryer will ruin them. Fabric softeners leave crap in the towel you don't want on your car. Wash in cold or warm only. I like to use the Sonus Blue waffle weave towels. They are big but not too big.

I use a leaf blower to get all the water out of the tight spots on the car then towel off everything. I can do it with one towel.

I was looking to get some of these.

Do they work better than a chamois?

Oh yeah, they are dry to start and can be cleaned easily. You dont have to wet them and squeeze them to get started. Costco has them locally in a 36 pack.

I used to swear I'd never use anything but a chamois. Then I researched microfiber and tried them. Now I'll never go back to chamois. Buy good quality towels for your paint and glass. Use the bulk towels for dirty areas like the door sill, etc.

I put mine in the dryer - air fluff cycle

Of course I need to wash them three separate loads - a load for exterior use towels - a load for engine bling-bling polish towels - and a load for the check "engine oil" towels.

(You didn't think I would use just a shop rag to check the engine oil on my XF - did you?)

Never use fabric softener on any towels, cotton or microfiber

your bath towels lose absorbency with fabric softener (works as water repellent), residue causes a problem with drying your car (got streaks?)

Softener is a big no-no - I have microfibers and can dry on low in dryer with no ill effects, use the microfiber cleaner from Griot's Garage - stuff is great for foam pads and microfibers in the washer with mild detergent and no softener (did I mention no softener?)
