Weird noise from engine at idle
I'll post a sound clip soon so you can actually hear it, but I was hoping someone might have an idea what this is before I go to the trouble.
When my car is sitting at idle there i a weird whistling noise. Not very loud, but just enough to bother me.. Sounds like a belt pulley needs to be lubed or something.
Anyone else ever experience this?
Thanks!!

Whistle sound leads me to think it's a small air leak from your intake...

Is it just at an idle or does it get louder when the supercharger kicks in ? A whistle noise makes me think vacumn leak !
Just my Dos Centavos

Hmmm possibly. I had a vacuum leak on my Jeep, and this sounds very different from that. A rhythmic squeak might be a better way to describe the sound.
Ill get a sound clip on soon.
And I can't hear it if i'm not idling.

Ok here is the sound clip. This was recorded with the hood open right in front of the timing belt (where it seems the noise is coming from).
It doesn't sound that loud outside of the car with the hood shut or I'd be really upset. Its just slightly audible normally, but I recorded it this way so you could hear it better.
Again it sounds like its coming from the timing belt area, and its only at idle as far as I can tell.
Any ideas?

Geez Mouse ! Sounds like a belt squealing !!!
Remove your accessories drive belt and start it up again to better isolate the noise. It will be fine to run this way for a few minutes.
You may need to clear a few fault codes after re-installing the drive belt. Worst case....idler, water pump, SC, pulley bearing.

It might be the idler pulley. I had one go bad on another car I owned and the noise does sound like it. The bearings in it start getting noisy before it seizes up.
Sorry guys.. At work all day. Would a dealership fix this under powertrain warranty? I just don't have time to do it myself.
BTW I'm at 56k miles, more than any else I believe. So i hope this isn't i anyone else's future.

Take a listen to this and see if yours sounds like this. See the Supercharger Noise thread I have posted. Your are listening to SRT6 with a new pulley bearing and idler pulley.
