Yah, what would world class auto designers know about what works on the Crossfire!?
Not everyone of you so no need to ring out an answer right or wrong but, screwing with the lines by throwing the most childish part from rice burning, neon lighting, nascar loving mentalities is downright insane.
Make the side scoops funtional maybe to aid in brake cooling keep the European design, European. How bout grapping a million dollar Enzo and throw a big fire breathing shaker hood on it.
The market HAS fallen out of the bottom of these fantastic cars. So just keep garbaging them up with slap on crap and cutting holes in them and I am sure the few remaining ones that don't look as though a high school kid messed with them will appreciate in value. Thank you for aiding in the destruction of what SHOULD have been a classic. Everytime I try to express what I feel is a deep love for this car by trying to open peoples eyes to what they have, they take it so personal. I expect a bunch of returns of "oh yah?" "I work on these for a living""well this or that" every great designer or builder knows that his mistskes will be endless but how about trying some on paper at least for a second before opening your mouths or cutting tools.

The back of those vents onf the XKR hood look like they are VERY close to where the front of the air boxes are. That wouldnt be much of a stretch to hook up something. Could they be put right over the air boxes and just close down on them with gaskets? That is one sexy hood.

I am all for this hood, it would not be hard at all for us to make carbonfiber functional air boxes that fit up to the vents. If a group buy was created for this I would have no problem making something for the group buy members that went with the hood that it made it functional.

I'm new at this whole game of life and everything but I do believe that even Ferrari's have aftermarket and upgrade parts. Oh and if Chip Foose took a plasma cutter to a Crossfire would you tell him he was destroying what could have been a classic and tell him to throw some neon lights underneath it. Get over yourself!!!! At the end of the day it's JUST A CAR!!!!!! by the way I like the look of the hood...hope to see a finished product.

Before I ever began to modify my Crossfires hood, I got in touch the Creator (Eric Stoddard) and asked him if the 1960's AMC Marlin was indeed his inspiration for the Crossfires coupe "style".
His answer was he was shooting more for an Auburn Speedster, 63 Corvette Stingray (split window), 68 Mustang fastback sort of look, and the Marlin never really occured to him. Nothing European was ever mentioned. But he admitted to being a "closet" fan of AMC.
Now since the Auburn Speedster is a roadster, I assume Mr. Stoddard was refering to its "boattail" styling. So that credits the rest of the Crossfires styling lineage to that of a great American sports car, and pony car of the late 60's. (Both of which offered "scoops" on their higher powered models).
After hearing that, I felt more comfortable about adding another "late sixties" styling exercise to my car by including the AMX scoop.
I couldn't find any actual conversations with Mr. Stoddard while he was affiliated with the Crossfire project, but here are a couple of him explaining his new Hyundai design.

http://www.webridestv.com/videos/hyu...uto-show-14195

http://www.veoh.com/videos/v15436255XmSASjq

What I found interesting is how he stressed, or encouraged modifications and or the use of aftermarket parts on this new Hyundai. While of course not being a Crossfire "per say", is it really that crazy to think he might feel the same about modifying a Crossfire?

You'd think someone jacked up the suspension and mounted 32" mud tires on the thing.

I like most of the hood posts floating around. With any type of body kit the devil is always in the details, with the quality of the fit, finish and paint being the make or break issue. That AMX hood as a one-off looks very well done. But it is a major expenditure on something almost purely cosmetic, and something of a pain to get done. Let's face it -- some sort of functional hood vent or mini-scoop kit that can be adapted to the factory hood via template would be so much less of a headache and so much cheaper to get done.

.....#### Santa and the kids will be OK.#### ..... He can still come! ..... LOL ...... That's why I suggested March orders. I think it will take that long to get 10 members or more to agree on any design. I do think we can make this Jag XKR hood a reality. To give you a ball park price based on the failed AMX hood deal,(And I'm not the manufactors spokes person)..... For a group of 10,We were going to pay $650.00 for a custom fiberglass hood. $50.00 to box it up and $200.00 for shipping from Florida. I was going to drive down from North Carolina to pick mine up,saving $250.00, while visiting my grown kids near by. I think the intake vents are so cool. If the Limited and Base owners don't want supercharged on their vents, your painter could easily spread a thin film of filler over the slightly recessed lettering. After seeing our recessed groved hood lines on Sebrings and Vans,I could care less where the fiberglass hood was groved or not. But it must have functional intake vents with a center spine. Just my thinking!.....Soooo.....What's Up Don

What I would love to see is a functional hood scoop that had enough room under it for the air to pass over a heat exchanger and cool my intercooler. Now THAT would be hot looking and cool acting. To heck with putting that air into the motor. I've got a NeedsWings intake for that.

Not owning a SRT, I'm not exactly sure where the intercooler is positioned. I can't seem to find a photo of a SRT6 motor without the cover on it.

Look at BrianBrave's engine compartment pics. The SC is right in the middle and the IC is right UNDER it.

Thanks Mike.
So can anybody tell me why the scoop on my hood wouldn't be ideal at positioning cool outside air directly "over" the top of the motor, like Tom2112 suggested?

The supercharged vents are an off the shelf product. Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy those and have them cut into the stock hood like we did in the old days? Has anyone placed the vents on a stock hood to see how they line up with the seams? If the vents cost $150, I know I could have them painted and installed locally for less then $200. Can we get some photos of the vents sitting on the stock hood in different locations that fit the lines of the hood? I think matching body color or silver matching the side vents would both look great.

Anyone else interested in an inexpensive functional hood!

Thanks

What exactly are the "vents" for?
To introduce cool air into the intake?
To place cold air "over" a heat exchanger?
To let "hot" air escape the engine bay?
Purely cosmetic?
I've never looked under the hood of any Mercedes, or Jag that had them so I really don't know there actual purpose.
Because if it's to introduce cool air into the intake, then it would probably not work as well as the factory design simply because there is at least 1" of "dead air" that envelopes the whole body of the car as it's moving. The vents would only allow the engine to "suck" cool outside air into the supercharger, as opposed to the stock design that actually offers some "ram air" effect.
As an exhaust vent, it would probably work just fine.
If it's purely cosmetic, then it boils down to what ever floats your boat.
