Default electric exhaust cutouts?

Hey guys....

Just thinking about doing an electric cutout on my exhaust system. Couple of questions...

1) Does anyone here with a C32/srt6 have electric cutouts on their car?

2) Many C32 owners on mbworld have tried many exhaust setups and have seen minimal to no power gains. Anyone attempt electric cutouts here (srt6 or c32)?

3) Should I expect to see gains by doing this?

I also have VRP Headers coming so that should help increase exhaust flow as well and maybe see more gains. But if I'm not going to see any gains (besides noise), I'm not sure I want to do it.

I think NW and SRTPowa has them on. Not sure they if they are off the shelf or custom. Ask Rob.

I have DMH low profile cutouts that were made for the GTO. I have not been able to test them at the track, but it's on my list to do. Currently they are blocked off and need to bee sent back because they were leaking.(3 year warranty). I really hated the sound of them, open V6 just sounds horrible. I could feel a definite loss on low end torque and top end seemed to be stronger. Sadly our track has been closed for a while now and might never open, so who knows when I will get some real 1/4 mile data. Rob says they are good for some power on his car and 1-2mph in the 1/4.

yah i am a bit concerned about the noise of the s/c V6....that is my main concern to be honest.

SRTpowa, you dont have any sound clips by any chance, do you? what size cutout did you go with?do you feel that that gain on top end is worth the loss in bottom end? do you have the same setup as rob?

lol........you mean from medical school? Haha.....gotta save up money to do that.... Unfortunately, i dont have money for an E55 W211 right now, especially the way I am going, spending money on tons of car parts and medical school apps and the such. Good thing I have a steady job outside of school to pay for all this..............

and yes you are right, i am ALWAYS looking for some new power adding mod....its just the environment i'm in. constant competition with some good buddies at the track (and in Mexico) with crazy swaps (like my roommates) and fast fast cars (like my buddy's supra trapping 135) and total sleeper (like my buddy's turbo'd g35) and the such.....always trying to find that little bit of extra to give me an edge. Nitrous is coming soon too.....lol. Hopefully by summer.

yes, the exhaust on the C32 is touchy at best. The problem you run into is the lost backpressure. We have played with a couple of different exhaust setups and have yet to find a good one (performance wise) for the C.

i know that the lost backpressure is the biggest hassle and debate over e-cutouts.

would it be possible to do a minimal cutout, where, when open would not completely divert all exhaust through the cutout, but rather only a partial pressure release... if possible, couldn't this also be engineered for optimum backpressure on the SRT6/C32...

just a thought.

One of the reasons I put the block off plates on, low end torque definetly dropped. I haven't tried them out with the 178 yet or new tune, but once I get the Code3 mid-sized pulley on there and pushing more air, maybe they will be more beneficial.

That's with manifolds it may be a different sound with headers.

worth a shot...fwiw we had a c32 with a 192 that we put on a dual straight through exhaust that lost HP and low end torque. (stupid backpressure)

There is some math involved in this one, and I'm not about to start tackling that project........yet
