Default US Fidelis

I saw this commercial for this company that offers extended warranties on older cars.

For a whoot I called them about the SRT6. They said I barely made their New Car Warranty (oh please). They quoted me 5 yrs/75K miles.

Now I have 23K miles on a '05 SRT that had an inservice date of Feb. '07.

So that should put me still with the factory warranty for another year (or 13K miles).

Anyway, I asked US Fidelis alot of questions, like:

Are you offering a bumper to bumper 5yr/75K? Yes.

What if I wanted to take the car to an independent, ASE-cert'd shop? No problem.

What if my seat heater broke and it cost the shop $1400 to repair? (I was teasing them) As long as it is a factory part it would be covered 100%.

Do you have a ceiling on any parts that may need to be replaced? No.

Whatever I asked, they told me what I wanted to hear. As well as remind me that if I didn't make payment today I would lose this New Car Warranty Opportunity.

The reality is the car will probably be fine up to 5yrs/75K miles. But is this company any different than the others that offer the same warranties?

And what is the longest warranty to be found on the SRT?

Btw, they quoted me $2511 on the 5yr/75K. Sounds way too steep.

Thoughts? Opinions?

When did you purchase it?

www.chryslerservicecontracts.com I bought from them last year, 7/50 bumper to bumper for $1080. No deductable. Main reason for the purchase was to cover the heated seats. The car itself is pretty easy to work on. Depending on your plans, if you re-route the PCV system clean the IAT sensor and change the intercooler pump and leave the car stock I don't think you will have too much warranty concerns, and can get buy without an extended warranty.

This must be the same clowns that keep calling my cell phone. When you answer the phone you get a canned response warning you that your warranty is about to expire. I called them attempting to stop them from calling me, which they still do. Out of curiosity I asked them what kind of car I owned I found that these guys have no records of my car, or if I have a warranty at all. Just a bunch of hovering buzzards, all of them.

I have only owned three cars in my life, but I have never felt the need to purchase an extended warranty. But with the SRT (and its quirks) it has me researching the options.

That's really expensive.

The real question you should be asking is whether or not you expect $2511 in warranty related repairs in the next 5 years.

If you do, then you will lose no money on buying the insurance.

I felt it was too high as well. I was really calling on my '95 Audi 90 Quattro due to its age, but I mentioned the X-fire first and got swept up in that quote.

I'll figure this whole warranty mess out before my factory coverage dies.

Thanks all!

Warranties are always a crap-shoot. Basically you are gambling you will incur repair expenses > $2500 so you will come out ahead. I bought the Chrysler extended warranty for my roadster because I was worried mainly about the ragtop mechanism -- take a look at the cables and stuff that operate it. Scarey.

Anyway, other than the radiator recall there has been zero problems over 4 summers and 32k miles. Wait -- I lied -- one TPM won't go off.

My SRT6 had to have the intercooler and sensor replaced, but that was done under warranty (which is now expired). So I'm hoping I never have to replace the s/c. Now of 2000+ SRT6s made, only one posted to this forum about having to replace their s/c and it cost $7k. And even then there was debate about it really being the intercooler and not the s/c. I have no extended warranties on the SRT6 and 2007, so that puts me $2-5k ahead now.

As Clint Eastwood said: "Do ya feel lucky, punk?".

I don't have an srt just a ltd however I have the same thing ronscort6 has, 1200$, mine has a $100 deductible and is through Chrysler. By the way we also bought an aftermarket warranty in August on our 04 Mercedes. This one was a tad more than the Chrysler warranty and carried a $50 deductible. I bought it from the Mercedes dealership where we bough the car, certified, a year prior. Last month the front end developed a clunking sound. Apparently something to do with the control arms. It was one of those deals where it was an inexpensive part but a ton of labor. Not only did the warranty cover it but the shop "ate" the deductible. What I paid for the warranty is almost what they wanted for the repair so don't write off after market warranties, just read the small print and make sure you know what you are buying.
