Just thought I'd put this out here and see if anyone might have ideas of what kind of problems
I might want to keep an eye out for, after having broken a motor mount.

Took the SRT-6 into the Dealer service center for a double wrench service and to have
them take a look at the front end and the air intake. Front end had gotten a little loose and
would pull either direction when hitting road bumps (depending on which tire took the bump
and how). And I wanted them to make sure there were no leaks in the boost system.

So, needs a steering dampener and injector cleaning (75K miles on the clock). Since they
have to wait on the dampener, I pick the car up Saturday afternoon and drive it the 6 miles
back home. Leave it in the garage until Monday when I drive to work. No problem, seen, driving
conditions were heavy rush hour traffic (Atlanta).

On the way home, I go to pass a guy moving 5mph below the speed limit in the lane, and
drop down a gear. Stepping on the gas, I feel the gear selector nearly jump out of my hand.
Whoooh, never felt that before. Don't like it. So I limp the rest of the way home and take it
to the service center the next morning. Was taking it anyway to have the dampener installed.

So, they check it out and tell me that a motor mount collapsed. My concern now, since this is
evidently covered by warranty, is what problems could this cause? When the gear selector
jumped, it moved quite a bit. Could this weaken the other motor mount? How about the
tranny? Any possibility of doing damage there? Would the motor move enough to cause
damage to other systems in the engine compartment?

Your thoughts would be most appreciated, as always...

I would get them to replace both motor mounts, the transmission mount should be ok. Our motor mounts suck! Fist time i went to the dyno and watched the motor to see how much it torqued in the engine bay i thought the damded thing was going to flop right out...

Been talking about this for along time, there is so much torque that .........I added a strap that is in one of my postings about the motor mounts. I used a cable to limit motor rocking just for that reason, WOODY WEEKEND Taaaa Daaaaa

Not a bad idea. Just called the shop and checked. They are replacing both motor mounts.
I also think I'm going to look more closely at Waldig's strap down. I'd hate to have the engine
flop out. That would be so embarrassing.

I remember reading that thread some time back. Think I'll look at it a little more closely.
Don't want my motor flopping out at the wrong time...

Ya the dyno shop operator even said "woah" when he saw the motor bucking around in the engine bay.

Has anyone thought about using some torque dampeners,shocks to limit some of the engine movement.I looked aorund the engine bay and thought it wouldn't be to difficult to use the front and back passanger side engine lift points as mounting spots for some.

I started a thread on torque dampers hoping one of our vendors would fabricate one for sale. As you can see, that never materialized.

Do you guys think a bracket that rigidly mounted the block to the chassis is too much? What about a couple of rods that had polyurethane bushings in each end that absorbed some of the stress? Do you think that would be too much?

Something like this, but built to scale? I would love to hear some more ideas.

I showed up at the first MIR drag race with a chain across the motor to the shock tower and got lots of looks, but it worked. Jim had it right too.Woody

Thanks for all the replies, guys. The motor mounts have been replaced and I've got a bit
of steel cable soon to be installed as a tie down strap. Really, though, I like the solution
suicidedoors proposed, as that would certainly be a much cleaner look. If only I could
find something like that in the right size and strength.

I got an Ingalls dampener but havent come up with a mounting that I like yet. The SRT6 has a nice mounting point a couple of inches above and to the left of the water pump pulley with a clear shot to the frame. Am 8mm bolt fits through it nicely. Unfortunately I used this hole for a pulley on my belt wrap kit so I have to find another point.
