Default Introduction & Thanks

Hey guys, I was looking for a play car for over a year and then discovered the SRT6. This forum provided me the necessary information to assist in my decision and as such, I purchased my SRT6 in April of last year and have absolutely enjoyed it with no regrets. I am located in Louisiana and wanted to introduce myself as I have been reading posts on this site for some time – learning!

Since the purchase I have installed a NW CAI, Code3 pulley, chrome turn signal bulbs, and painted the brake calipers (red) all due to the wealth of information on this site. Soon to be completed mods are a tune, CTD Germany clear side markers, and ceramic brake pads (still trying to determine which ones). I am still reading trying to understand the cooling mods - H/E, supercooler, IC Pump, and thermostat and how they all work together and where to begin.

Now for the good stuff:

First time ever racing at the drag strip, my best time was a 13.1 at 108mph with just the CAI installed. Let’s just say I can improve my launch off of the line. Since then I learned about the sc having a clutch and if I power brake at 1800 rpm it should improve my launch. I go back to the drag strip this month to see if I can improve.

First time ever at a road course I caught and passed a Porsche GT3 and a later model corvette Z06 with just the CAI installed. GT3 guy would not even talk to me afterwards. I could reach 140mph on the straightaway before having to brake for the first turn – awesome!

At both events, as mentioned in the “buyers remorse” post, no one gave me the time of day until after they saw the performance of this car. It was a great feeling! Sleeper car all the way.

Thanks to all of you for your assistance in making this happen even though you did not know it. It has been great so far. Also, I am glad that I purchased a graphite gray coupe as everyone agrees that it is the coolest and fastest color to have.

The poor GT3 owner, that must have been like a dagger through the heart. Porsche owners, pfft. What do they have to be stuck up about? Porsche's had the 914 & 924 that had engines from VW and Audi. The Cayenne shares most of its parts with the VW Toureg.

welcome to the board! im the older brother, the red headed stepchild of the forum. and i feel the need to educate you. EVERYONE knows BLACK is the fastest color!! just ask dj!
seriously you couldnt ask for a better place to learn about how to make these cars fast. its all here.
i would suggest if its possible to combine your cooling mods just for ease of install. in LA. your dealing with tons of heat and you need all the cooling you can get.
install the supercooler 180 tstat and separate the cooling system at the same time. im sure you know the ills of the bosch pump so if you desire replace the pump also. doing this all at once allows you to flush the cooling system and refill with new fluid just once and your done.
if you get a tune from tony have them do the star -10 fan mod for 50$.
there is also more than afew threads about installing a bigger tank in the trunk on the m/b forums to hold more coolant and ice for the track. some like it some dont.
enjoy the car you will love the speed!!! btw akebono pads are dust free and work very well

kolevski, I just installed the C3 pulley a couple of weeks ago. If that GT3 guy was pissed then with no C3, just imagine him now. The OEM pulley had two shims and I was able to install the C3 with no shims with no clearance issues and no belt slip so far. I am trying to setup some dates at both tracks (drag and road course) to see the difference in performance before I get the tune.

32krazy, thanks for the cooling mod tips. Due to all the work involved, I want to make sure I have a plan to save as much time as possible. However, I have been told I must build our fence and a swing set before any more work on the car – I can never catch a break.

32krazy, he's right. Graphite gray is the best looking color by far.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. Consider yourself among the very few that have discoved how special this car is. Remeber, they probably aren't ignoring you, they're just most likely envious...

Heads up on the pulley when roadracing that thing builds up some really high intake temps think about those cooling mods soon so you have more power other than the strip. Seperate your SC coolant form the engine coolant, get a better cooling exchanger, and pump.

I just noticed, from your photos. the car has that "shark" look with the grille out...ready to eat something....and to be honest, if I could have found a gray one, well, I ended up with blue, which is fine too....I found a host of black ones, but 1 black one to keep clean was enough...lol

Sorry to dissagree Doc. Blue is better than fine ..... it's suuper fine!

I race my car on road courses and it does get hot. Water temps plateau at 225 and stay there. At that temperature, maximum timing I've seen is 16º at WOT and that's only for a few seconds. Some track days it never passes 13º. Not to mention when the water gets that hot, the transmission is baking too.

If your going to use the car often at the track, it would wise to do the cooling mods. I'm doing them on my car this month.
