Broke a part need help
Okay I have to describe it as I have no camera right now......
The coolant tank behind the passenger headlights,
The hose coming out of the top front of it,
Broke....as in the copper fitting is in the hose and the plastic part is broken off the tank...right by the screw cap.
Of course happened to be driving along and the coolant low light comes on...never seen that before...pull over and coolant all over the hood and the tank in question and the pan under the motor has coolant in it.
Great!!
Okay 1st how the hell did this happen?
2nd now what....where the hell am I gonna get another tank?
3rd How do I keep this from happening again?

Go down to the hardware store and by a 1/4" brass 90* fitting - cut the barb from the brass end of the 90* - drill out the broken stem at the filler neck so brass fitting will fit in tightly - remove and scuff both pieces - use some two part epoxy and re-attach - might work...
I have never seen that break before unless something heavy got dropped on it. You will need to get another tank. I think someone has a spare... lemme do some thread searching.

so how about an answer to 1 and 3?
By the way is there copper up inside that tube on the tank in the photo?
Cause there is copper inside the hose end...and no 90 of plastic left at all....to me it looks like it should be a straight shot into the tank not a 90.
Is there that much pressure on this to pop it?

Hey Kirk ... sorry to hear of this problem. I have worked with epoxy in the marine invironment before, and my experience with it is that epoxy and what appears to be a poly-ethylleen plastic will not hold real good. The bond is not great. If it cures and you can just twist it a little, it may come loose. If this happens, try a product called 3M Window Weld. This stuff is incredibly tenacious on most materials, and will cure pretty rock hard in 48 hrs. It is costly (@ $18.00) but it is what I used to repair the roadster back window seal, and it is holding up after 4 months. It comes in a tube like what is used in in a caulking gun, but smaller. Just cut off the tip and "squeeze" it out, otherwise you have to buy a special 3M caulk gun. I saved some, and if we get together to install that flip-up license holder I could bring it. Let me know ...... Howard

I have found that using epoxies to mend plastic does not work too well. There needs to be a bond and PE does not bond well, glues and epoxies come in plastic tubes for a good reason. It sometimes looks good but any force and it separates cleanly. PE can be welded with the proper filler and the right equipment.
Finding a replacement is my best idea.

Howard wife said you called I left town early(obviously)
I am in Antioch for the weekend....coming home sunday round noon.
Would like to replace with original parts.....I make a very small living(pays bar tab) in the marine business..sell boats...and soforth....doesn't look repairable to me...at least in a way I wanna trust....next week I will post photos.
From the previous photo posted(thanks by the way) the whole 90 plastic part is gone....I have fragment on neck of tank and copper in hose end and a hose clamp still on the line.....but NO sign of the plastic 90.
Even 5200 couldn't save this...thought about marinetex....
But why...just need a new tank....ya think my warranty would cover this?
Never have used the damn extended warranty.....
Anyway H we will hook up soon you pick I will make myself available....
Only time not is wednesday a.m........Bulldog classes...gotta take care of my puppy.

I did many changes to my tank and you can thread a fitting to the tank easy pezey. Epoxy can also assist the sealing and you can even add a backup nut to make it harder to pull out.
I LEAVE MY TANK TOP LOOSE AND RUN NO PRESSURE IN MY SYSTEM. ITS NOT NEEDED UNLESS YOUR IN A THERMAL SITUATION LIKE ON THE TOP OF A MOUNTAIN, LOW PRESSURE, HIGH LOAD AND HOT DAY. PRESSURE CAUSES THE RADIATOR AND HEATER TO ACCORDIAN WITH EACH HEATING CYCLE. BAD BAD.
I AM DIFFERENT IN THIS MANNER AND OTHERS WILL DISAGREE. SO WHAT THEY ARE ENTITLED TO THINK(?) THEIR OWN THOUGHTS.
Sorry I dont have any canned photos of my tank, its plastic, its water, whats the issue? I have a mess of E-250's and had to J-B weld the plastic top cap of a radiator that cracked, thanks ford. It worked and I cut out the pressure reliefs out of the all the radiator tanks so that there is no pressure on the systems. They ran fine in the summer at atmospheric pressure. Remember me I designed 170 and 180 degree stats for the crossfire so that they dont overheat WHILE AUTOCROSSING IN THE SUMMER AT 6000 RPM IN FIRST GEAR .......

Kirk, I'm surprised that the fitting that broke is giving you issues as the one with the 90 is the coolant relief/overflow. Sounds like you may want to take a look at the car and see what the underlying cause is.
Also, the copper is just a reinforcement so you can tighten down the hose clamps and not crush the plastic fitting.
