Default Caliper Covers

I typically am not a big fan of this type of accesory but came across this caliper cover in C and D magazine, perhaps it Motor Trend... in any event I like the idea but not certain if anyone else does. If someone in Cali near San Diego does like it, he will give you a set for free to match up the sizes so he can sell it to others. He offers these for many cars/trucks but currently not the crossfire. If anyone is in this area you may want to look into it.....again if you like this type of thing.

If someone does look this guy up please let me know as I will promptly buy a set.

If we can get someone to go to his shop in Cali, San Diego he will give them a set for free just to have their car fitted so he can sell them to us. Looking at it...... I like the idea vs. painting!

I didn't see our cars on the list of supported vehicles, nor the slk.

I've never been a fan of caliper covers either. But those look pretty nice.

Alright guys, just made an appointment to bring my car (SRT-6) in to get fitted on Monday Nov. 29. It will take about 2 weeks after that for the covers to be offered for sale to you guys. When I get the covers on, I will take a few pics. For those with an NA, they will need someone to bring their car in to get fitted as well. This is for the SRT. Stay tuned...

They look a lot better than the stock calipers. However you can also change to the Brembo/MB four piston calipers. the ones for the CL and S Class work with the stock 330mm SRT rotor and these calipers are cheap on Ebay and much cheaper than the C32 caliper which also need the C32 345mm rotor.

Any info on possibility of putting the beeter calipers on the NA rotors. I thinkI would have to change Rotor and caliper. I was just thinking of beter clamping power with some ceramic pads.

There are probably some good MB calipers that will work with the n/a 300mm rotor. Most likely they will be on a C or CLK class cars. I haven't done the research for this. If you use the M/B part number of the stock rotor and cross reference it, you will find compatible MB's and can then check what type of calipers they used and probably find something nice and useable on ebay. I can check this if you send me the part number.

the SRT rotors are 330mm and fit right on a n/a. You can then go with CL500 or S500 class four piston calipers. Mine came from a 2002 CL500.

another option is C32 rotors and calipers. this can be expensive but CLK500 are the same exact caliper except they say Mercedes Benz on them instead of AMG. they are much less expensive used. This set up gives you a 345mm rotor.

Thanks for the quick reply. I may do some upgrades on brakes a little later( after Christmas). I need to find a real bargain. Probably just do ceramic pads for now. Need to hunt around fro all these parts so I can keep cost down.

They do look good, but I am very skeptical about how he claims it reduces brake caliper heat. He is not comparing apples to apples. On one side he is measuring the actual calper, the other side he only measuring the temperature of the cover. The cover is nothing more than a shield, which will not get as hot as the caliper. I wouldn't be suprised if the actual caliper could be getting hotter since it is not getting the air circulation. Until he measures the actual caliper under the cover, I don't buy it.

Maybe he should have compared and showed us the difference in temperature of the rotors if the covers are so effective.

I agree. Logic tells me the cover holds the heat in and does not allow it to dissipate. However aluminum is a terrible insulator. I like the reduced brake dust part.

Yes Aluminum dissipates heat at great rate and can help cool. But the way I see it installed, it acts more like a shield than a heat sink.

Did I miss how it reduces brake dust ?????? Not sure how it would do that.

The product looks great on the car, I just think the ads and video could be misleading people into thinking they are getting more than they actually are.

Well, they claim it on the main page:

Benefits
Enhances Wheel Appearance
Reduces Brake Dust
Easy Install, Approx 10 Minutes Per Wheel
Custom Paint & Engraving Available
No tape, glue, paint or special tools required
Reduces Caliper Heat & Brake Fade

Actually, all it can do is displace it. "Reduce" is a bit deceptive.

Another option we used G2 a caliper paint. It's self leveling dries by the time you've painted around the car (the next 3 wheels) so that you can put another coat on. When done it is smooth, hard finish, you would think it was professionally done. We added the white heat resistant sticker to complete them. You can buy it from the manufacturer, but it was cheaper from:
G2 Brake Caliper Paint Kit: Hubcaps Plus After Market Parts and Accessories For Cars, Trucks and SUVs
Life time warranty. One of ours was damaged by the wheel weight. This company sent out a whole new kit at no charge. If there is a color you want it is worth considering.
A=prep of calipers B=finished and dry C=with "emblem" (sticker) on/completed job

Very nice. But umm, this is not the Viper forum and our "junk" are not as big as yours.

I've painted mine too as have many others. The front calipers are large enough, but the rears are pretty small.

I rode these brakes hard in the summer, then jumped out and felt the calipers and they were not hot at all. That's why I ended up painting them with just rustoleum and they're just fine. Not an issue in my opinion with heat-doesn't seem to bet any to speak of.

Please keep me posted on this as I am seriously looking into this. Also you should know that I spoke to him and he offered the first set free, if you can get there then you will get them if he honors his word. Perhaps he will give me a discount for getting this started : )

Thank you!

I was going to get those caliper covers but at the last minute I decided to go with an electric supercharger, led lights under the car and a double decker aluminum wing with vtek decals. I am hoping santa may bring the caliper covers and a fart can under the christmas tree though
