Default interior vinyl

the vinyl (mostly on the center console) is starting to peel. its not the top vinyl but the dark side vinyl where ur legs are and wrap around the whole inside. is there any way to fix, cover, refinish, or whatever to make it look good?

We have some peeling starting on our center console as well. I believe it was caused by the brand of sunscreen we were using last summer. I don't see any way to easily fix the problem, but we are trying to keep it from getting worse.

peeling consoles were a common problem on the r170 bodystyle. many have used viponds paint and removed the console and repainted the center section. be careful not to sand it as it will remove the texture and smooth it out. non toxic paint remover seems to work. another m/b guy wrapped his in leather and it looked great

I've purchased the tautflex from Viponds and the stuff is very easy to work with. They have MB SLK specific colours available and the Anthracite 221 matches our charcoal interiors. You will need to add their matting agent to knock down the sheen. This stuff is a bit pricey at approx. $50/200ml bottle shipped from Australia but a perfect match and blends in without stripping existing finish. Send Alan an e-mail at info@viponds.com.au or visit their website at Viponds Paints - The Paint Colour Specialists - Architectural, Industrial Signwriting Industries. Good luck!

Guess you guys are starting to see a common R170 problem. I hoped the X-fires didn't have the same issue...

I was going to use the Viponds, but ruined my console trying to strip it. I ended up wraping it in vinyl. It looks 'ok', but my O.C.D. notices the imperfections daily...

See if you have any business like this in your area. This guy is about 20 minutes from my house and he's invaluable. A true craftsman. His prices are cheap when you consider the value he can add. Don't be put off by the Leathersmith name. Read through the services page to get an idea what he can do.
