installed E55 air intake
yea installed the E55 AIR INTAKE i bought on here ( thank you amx1397 for the good deal) and yea i had no idea it made that big of a difference.. and my rear wheels tell the seat of my pants this is a very good upgrade ..had to make new front air box brackets as the stock ones are shorter.... i already have the EC tune and that was a "WOW" it changed how the whole car drove and so farfor me the best bag for the buck for the car..also i did the resonator delete and may not have done munch for the HP but did a lot for the sound....my nexted upgrade will be the EC SC pulley as soon as they have all the bugs worked out
.....
THANK YOU for the info i will give them a call......
You mentioned an E55....most use the SL55.
It would be interesting to follow this as it may open up another option for us (if not already).
Here's a previous post on the subject...

which contains a link to Brian the Brave's install.
I also recall the 32Krazy and Grip Grip did the SL55 install.

when i did mine the brackets did NOT line up so we had to make some alterations to it so it would stay in place and also my engine cover would not fit back in place.....
I saw the changes to the brackets for the SL55 air box's, I believe the two air-box's are interchangeable, anybody know for sure? Also I am hoping to use the MB engine cover from the E55 instead of the original. I'm sure this will call for some customization.
I presume you're refering to the "two air-boxes" as the SL55 and the E55 (the one you bought) ????
That is correct, sorry for any confusion.

but i was told on the MB site that the sl55 and e55 are very close in O/D ..now very close is good for better air flow than stock but i think they would have to be the same to interchange the air boxs....so better air flow close to the sl55 intake is why i went with the easy to get E55 intake.....have you started you upgrade yet?
It’s not going well; I’m having gear-head remorse.
I broke a couple of the plastic latches on the OEM tubes getting them apart and I was trying to keep all that stuff perfect so I could bring it back to OEM if I wanted to. And what about those plastic bushings that goes through the radiator wall? I barely got the passenger one out and it would appear I have to take the bumper off to get the driver one off, is that true? Now I have to figure out how to get the front bracket extensions made for the air box’s.
The E55 Y where it attaches to the throttle body has one of the tabs broken off so I will have to buy one of those and do I need the buy the E55 rubber ring that goes between the Y and the throttle body or can I use the OEM one?
Man, this need for speed is killing me!

Well its wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I think I was just nervous about taking my brand new toy apart. Taking the bumper off wasn't bad at all and I ended up making the new brackets myself from some aluminum I bought at Loews. Here are some picts.

If so, you do believe in living dangerously, my friend.
BTW - nice look !!!
Talk to me alaxfire, I don't know a Varta battery from a Duracell. I take it it's the original battery, I just bought the car in Feb with 24K miles so it very well could be.
Thanks everyone for the kind words on the CAI I was pleased and surprised.

It was a little tricky getting the cover to fit but I wanted the OEM look as much as possible.
In order to get it to fit I had to cut off around three inches of each side of the E55 engine cover because I'm missing a cylinder on each side so it was too long. I then cut the two clips off the back of each side of the pieces I cut off that attach the cover to the air box and then sliced off the front clip. I then put the clips in the air box and the original front rod in front of the pulley and sanded them down until the height was perfect. Then I marked on the cover where the clips would touch the cover, loaded them up with plastic epoxy, laid the top on the clips, made some final adjustments and walked away. So far its holding tight.
