In inventory but not at dealer?
Several southern california dealers just had the SRT-6 show up in their online inventory:

I called around, and the salespeople I talked to denied that they had such cars on their lot and claimed the SRT-6 wouldn't be out for a while.
So does anyone know what it actually means when a dealer lists a car online? Is it allocated to the dealer or in transit but not actually there yet? Or did I just have very bad luck with clueless people who couldn't be bothered to go out and check their lot?

Heh. I just a call from the dealer this morning..."You know that SRT-6 that we didn't have yesterday? We actually did have it. But we just sold it."
Apparently they're asking $5000 over invoice, since there are only a handful in Southern California. No thanks! At that price...might as well just get an SLK. Maybe in a month or so things will settle down.

My dealer was offered one for inventory by the rep and refused it because he felt it would be too difficult to sell a $50,000 roadster at the end of the summer here in New England. Actually, mine is only the second Limitred roadster he has sold. He just got a graphite Limited for inventory, his first.
Just a guess, but with the wait for this car perhaps most incoming units are already "sold"? I'd beat the entries on the web sites are either done automatically from some shipping manifest, or are entered by someone who doesn't take them off the list until the paperwork is processed for the final sale. So they end up appearing on the web site even though they were technically sold before they even arrived.
They will sell in limited #s because that's how they planned it.!And they know most people over 40 something don't need to go 0-60 in under 5 sec.
There real plan is to keep the spotlight on their cars. They know the SRT makes the LImited look like a deal. And they will only build 1 out 10 SRTs.Or less !

Gee.....
I was not aware we had someone on this forum that must obviously been in on the strategic planning sessions for marketing at D/C!!!!
I can't imagine that an automobile manufacturer would ever think it made sense to produce enough cars to attempt to meet demand...........
I know that I am just a "local yokel" from Youngstown, Ohio, but does anyone else think that just maybe since D/C overestimated demand for the 2004 Crossfire, they may be taking a wait and see attitiude on the SRT model before ramping up production???
