Default Unexpected Purchase

I never planned to buy a SRT-6. In fact, I barely knew the Crossfire existed. I was shopping for a car though because I was gifting my 2005 Monte Carlo to a family member. One day after work, I stopped to browse a small car lot near my office that specializes in rare and collectible vehicles. I decided to test drive the Crossfire, even though it was over my budget, just for fun. Off I went, during the height of the evening commute in Los Angeles traffic. About 2 minutes later, I. Was. In. Love.

After owning the car for less than a week, I literally can’t imagine driving anything else … ever. I love sitting at a red light next to one of those silly kids (you know the type, driving a Honda something dripping with pointless aftermarket garbage) and knowing that I could thoroughly embarrass him without even trying.

This is my daily driver, 30 city miles round trip. It has 76k on it. And trust me, my eyes are wide open. Old car oil change $40, new car $130. Old car tires $200 a pair, new car $500 (getting new rears on Saturday). There are a lot of minor things wrong with it. I don’t care. I’m in heaven every time I touch the accelerator. It’s the car I always wanted. I just didn’t know it.

I hope you guys will be patient with a girl on the forums and all the questions I’m going to be asking in the days to come. Thanks in advance!

Nice! and welcome to the forum... We have a pretty good mix here and are always excited to see new people coming aboard and understanding why we are here. So congrats and have fun!

P.s. the "honda something dripping with pointless aftermarket garbage" gave me a good laugh lol.

There is absolutely nothing POINTLESS about any of that garbage, at least to the owner.
I'ts a known fact that stick-on Buick portholes from Walmart add at least 10 MPH to any car's top end.

BTW Josh, no valve covers yet. Stupid USPS says they are still in California.
( is it one or two boxes ? )

Welcome! I know those who own a SRT-6 will be in touch with you. We all love our Crossfires, but the SRT owners are particularly vocal in their praise. I'm in love with all the roadsters! I've asked my share of the 'know-nothing' questions, and the replies have always been helpful. It's educational and enlightenibng to simply read many of the posts. I had to laugh about your comment about the red light scenario - sometimes I have to restrain myself from just being a show-off when the light turns green.

Enjoy every moment -

Alicia

Welcome! These cars are great ------ looks, performance and fun all in one vehicle. This form is invaluable too. One tip. Save money and do your own oil changes. Buy an evacuator and get the oil and filter changes on sale. You'll save a ton of money and time.

Enjoy

Welcome, it's nice to have a lady join our little group. It's true, we SRT6 owners have a select fraternity or sorority...... whatever. How old are you and do you mind getting your hands a little dirty? Many of us do our own wrench work, it saves us tons of $$$. In any case, glad to have you.

Welcome aboard! I think the only thing I would drive in Los Angeles would be a helicopter... the traffic out there sucks

I don't mind getting dirty but I don't own any tools and although I took a year of auto shop in high school, that was ages ago and I'm really not very mechanically inclined.

So here comes the first of a million questions. This one is particularly for other Crossfire owners in California. What do you do about a front license plate? My car didn't come with one and I know they're required. I'd rather not start drilling holes but I don't want to get pulled over either.

I've been pulled over once in 2 years for this. He was a new guy and I told him "California Vehicle section code 5200.b states that any vehicle originally sold in California without a front license plate is not required to fixate one." He got pretty pissed and spent about 10 minutes talking to dispatch I guess, came back and bothered me some more about my exhaust but ended up leaving. Unless they can prove that your vehicle was originally sold with one they cannot write you a ticket for it. I am 99% sure mine didn't come with one because the bumper looks untouched and has no holes on it. Chances are if your bumper doesnt have a bracket or holes and sit's flush all around then it didn't have one when it was originally sold. At least that's what my friend the local base cop said.

WOW - beautiful car! Very clean and the headlights are not foggy - that's a good sign! Be sure to go to the SRT VIN registration thread here and register your car - you never know, it might have been owned by a previous member and you can get a good history on the car.

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-srt6-vin.html

SRT-6.com also has a registry if you'd like to list your car there as well - several of us have done that and the owner of the site (FUBU) is very knowledgeable about these cars.

Enjoy the car (as I know you will) and use this forum for all of your concerns about the car BEFORE consulting a dealership. These people know more about these cars than any dealership and the information is FREE If you can't find what you're looking for, post it up - we're here to help

Enjoy!!

RL
