Last night I test drove an SRT6 Roadster. I didn't go to the dealer with expectations of driving it. I just wanted to see one up close, but the salesman insisted that I drive it to see the difference between my xfire and the SRT xfire.

Here is my review of it. Keep in mind, this was the first time I had ever driven an automatic xfire, and the first time I had ever driven a roadster. The salesman encouraged me to "beat on it". With respect for the break-in period I didn't take it past 4000 RPMs. The acceleration of the SRT was very impressive, even though I didn't take it to its full potential. I stepped on it from a stand still to about 4000rpms, and then punched it again at about 40mph to see its 2nd gear performance. The car definately throws you into the seat. A huge downfall of this car is however the automatic transmission. It makes you feel like you are "disconnected" from the car. The transmission pretty much does what it wants to do. I found that it upshifted too quickly, probably to conserve gas. I made a comment about that to the salesman and he told me to try the autostick feature... verdict: garbage. It seemed like it took eternity for the car to shift upon my request. The topless feature of the car was pretty neat. I don't know if I could justify the extra cost of a roadster over a coupe, but if it was a bit warmer I could definately see myself using the "top down" feature, very cool.

At the end of the drive, I had him crunch some #'s just for kicks. I wanted to know what the bottom line was. The car's sticker price was $51,195 which included the navigation option. They were willing to come down to $47,595, which was a bit lower than I had expected. With the C6 so close in price, its availability with a manual tranny, the C6 far exceding the performance of the SRT, and the C6's slightly better gas mileage along with no premium gas requirement, I'm still not sure if the SRT is worth the $47k.

 

My experience with the SLK32 and so with the SRT-6 is different. I think the manual shift option work fine especially when driving fast up- and downhill or passes in the Swiss mountains. After a while you get used to it, you will know when it shifts and you will be able to manipulate the shifting points by acceleration pedal and shifter. It works very good. I nearly always use it.
Maybe true for you but not for Europe. Here price of the C6 is more than $10k over the SRT-6.

 

My buddies brother just got an SRT6 Roadster and he loves it. My friend and his brothers own a dealership so I'm sure he got a great price, and of course he has to advertise his own product... but I sat in that car while he drove and damn was it fast. However for those of us in the public who would have to pay retail.. I just dunno if its worth it.

I drove the SRT-6 cpe and it diffenately isn't worth it ! My 2cents.

I drove a 2005 mustang V-6 200+hp and they aren't worth 25k.Msrp ,auto options like a XF.

 

$25k for a V6 mustang? I drove an 05 GT and that is definately some bang for the buck. The sticker on it was around $26.5k if I remember correctly.

 

I don't want to step on your toes but maybe you need to get used to working the auto stick. I just read a review with the srt 6, nismo 350z and the boxster. The srt 6 finished in first and they gave the auto stick a very good review. You really have to know how to work it in order to shift when you like. I thought the same thing you did when I first got mine but now I know how to drive it and it makes a world of difference. The article says it is one of the best transmissions period. I'm not bitching at you, just giving my thoughts.

The car I drove had the power seat Leather and some some other package MSRP $25k+,the salesman said a GT with leather package would be close to $30k.

Also FORD plans production 1st year to be 100,000.+

All that being said, wouldn't you love to drive a 6 speed standard SRT6? I am dying to see if the power train can handle the supercharger. If someone knows what has be done to the clutch , transmission and rear end to make it work, please let me know. No point in supercharging, if it can't handle it. Right!

 

Ok I'm looking at $3000 and $300 more a month for a SRT-6 .Than my O4 XFire . Is this worth it? or am I just bored !

 

You must be just bored because I don't think it's worth it.
Give your '04 a chance to age a little before the upgrade. By the time your literally tired of the '04 you will be able to choose something better than the current SRT-6, and you won't have lost as much money on the depreciation as well.
You didn't say over what amount of time that $300. more is for but I would assume that it probably is for at least a couple of years.

 

Ok ,I'm trying to get only $200 more a month 39mo.lease.and 3k driveoff with my xf in trade .$650 a month.The dealer without trade is $616. $1k dwn.
