Default Well...Carmax just gave me $7k for my SRT-6

Passenger door needed taken apart and put back together to work right, rotors need replaced, brakes needed trouble shot (super soft), headliner needed replaced, front bumper needed $900 worth of work, interior smelled like crayons, coolant tank sensor needed replaced, wing leaked, needed a new battery, door locks liked to go up/down randomly, AC probably has a leak. Glad to see it gone.

Just for those trying to figure out a price to buy a used one or sell their own.

So if anyone decides to just let their car "go to hell" and never fix anything, then the baseline for a hunk-O-junk 6 is $7,000

Not bad!

Well **** you too.
With the exception of the door which is just the actuator not being in the right spot. All of that is just the car existing.

I should like to add that the only thing Carmax noted on their offer was the headliner. Everything else was listed as "good condition".

Was that a trade in allowance ? Seems a bit high for outright from a dealer.

Sounds like a deal for a 54k miles SRT6. I would have jumped on it.

+1 . . . Sorry but I have to agree with 05roadsterguy . . .

Seems to be "your way" about your cars . . . I note this post about your Crossfire from March of this year . . .

So if you wanted to just dump your SRT6, why didn't you offer it here on the forum? Sorry but I'm thinking you're just not a Crossfire kind of guy . . .

well, 7K is pretty darn cheap for an SRT6 that needed a 1000 dollars worth of work....and as they fix those things and put it back on their lot for 12k....well, that is business....and good business at that.

This seems to be a classic case of "I drive 'em 'til they die." Seems like some people aren't aware that these things can be repaired, part of the disposable generation. Zombiehunter, did you ever consider fixing the 30 year old MB and your SRT6 and having 2 decent cars?

The only thing that bothers me here is this 'Front bumper work'.... other than that, I'd think that car would have brought at LEAST $10,000 from one of us on here. EVEN if you were HONEST about all the other stuff.

I'd guess that new pads and bleeding would have fixed the brakes. (I have put 225,000 on a car without putting rotors on it - I kinda get the idea you believe too much of what garages say...)

The headliner is a common issue, nothing worth selling a car over, same for a bad battery or coolant sensor. The wing leaking is almost universal with SRT6 coupes! Depending in mileage, I would also point out that A/C that does not cool well CAN be crud in the condensor or radiator, inhibiting air flow. This was hte case with my GMC truck, had bugs and crap in the radiator fins. Changed radiator and the cooling was better for the engine AND the A/C got cold!

Not to be offensive, but I agree with others, maintenance is something you do on a continual basis. Don't let things go - one thing unfixed or unmaintained can lead to other issues. (Like with the radiator I mentioned that caused the A/C to not cool well.)

Damn, was it Graphite? Did I miss a great buy on a GRAPHITE coupe? For that money, I'd have got on a plane and come and got it.

Agreed. Or they took it to auction and got $10,000 (not sure Carmax will put a 10 year old car on their lot - will they????)

I agree with many here. All cars, no matter their original cost, need some routine car. Zombie hunter should just buy a Fiat 500 and let it go. every yer or so he can get a new one.

Most of us here will care for our Crossies from a level of good practice to fanatic. And various degrees in between.

Me, I plan to drive mine 'till the wheels fall off. And I will spend a bit of effort, routinely, to do my best at keeping them on. If I can drive a'75 Oldsmobile Starfire 200K over 20 years, I can likely keep this little Benz together for a while yet.
