IC Pump Testing
That is a completely misleading statement...the Bosch pump used if the Fords is the same pump in majority of OE, Whipple kits, Kenne Bell kits, Magnusion kits and so on. It's the most common IC pump there is, so yes more reported failures then the repurposed pump we have stock. If you want a stock car and don't want to pull the pins from the connector and put them in the new one then yes get a stock pump. If he is willing to put a Johnson pump on he must be willing to cut the OE plug off...
My son has spent a great deal of time around Cobras and majority of the ones using the Meziere WP-136 are drag racers. Most of them only pump to a ice box and not a HX when drag racing. Seems like the road racers and street guys(all makes)are going with the Stewart pumps and getting them reprogrammed.

That's weird. I can find reports all over the Ford forums about failed Cobra/Lightning pumps, but not one thread about a failed Bosch #10 on any XF or M/B forum.
The OEM pump flows 4.X GPM and the Johnson Pump flows 7.X GPM, thats almost double. There is a point that the coolant can flow so fast through the heat exchanger that it will not get the full cooling effect. I may be wrong, but when the German engineers designed the I/C cooling system on these cars you would think the 4.X GPM was what was required to cool the system at it's best. I'd say play it safe and stick with the Bosch that was designed for our system.

Actually, the best bet for a failed bosch pump is to cut the connector off the old pump so you don't have to cut the stock wiring. It works really well.
Ralph, let me know when you're available and I'll take care of replacing your IC pump when your 010 arrives. I've done 4 already and have the necessary tools to get the job done without losing much coolant. Takes me about 30-45 minutes total.
This doesn't sound right....I'm pretty sure - installed in our setup - the OEM does 2.7GPM and the Johnson about 3.5. Check out Waldigs measurements/post. He has a few videos.
7GPM is a $hit load of flow....your talking a bucket a minute - I've never seen that.

Awfully close to what I stated straight from the mfg mouths!
Many drag/racers/sl55/s600 boys opt for the Meziere WP136S rating at 20 GPM.

It's all about what the pump really does in the circuit its placed in, flow numbers from the book will be a open test with no restrictions.

Wish the person who installed the CM30 I just took out, didn't cut of the vehicle side connector if the OE pump does have a pigtail connector.

yes - search Waldig's videos - he came up with the 2.7GPM for the Bosch stockie in an XFire and then wacked it up to near 4GPM with the CM30 and his Super cooler (less restriction).
Not on the car - he later benched a CM90 as well.....
But if your system has a lot of restriction, even the "huge" CM90 may only achieve 5GPM.
A while ago everyone seemed happy with the CM30, but that may have changed.
I bought a Pierburg CWA50 and it's currently on my test rig doing 22lpm (5.7GPM). Been sitting there for 12months 'cause I've been away for work so much.
I have a stockie Bosch on the car.
See my research graph attach. and a snap of my flow rig. PS - I have a HX as well - not shown
L8tr...the "stock" system curve shown in the graph is a guess based on the 2.7GPM. They are usually parabolic.
Waldig put a flow meter in line to establish the OEM 2.7GPM before he wacked in his Supercooler - not sure if it was 3.8-4GPM just with the supercooler or with the super cooler + CM30. Too lazy to check.
Your final flow rate is where the system curve cuts the pump curve. So you can see you go for the bigger pumps...but if their curve ain't any better at the intersection - you wont get any more flow...you gotta open the system up...as Waldig did with his supercooler. That expands the system curve to the right = more flow.
Another guy by the name of Welwynnick with a Benz S600 - he's done a lot of similar stuff with curves for his
try this....but remember the system curves are for his car...not ours.

PS - I run hot water through my rig and use the blower/vac to pull cool air through the IC to work out heat transfer rates.
Waldig did something similar but results are "so far" inconclusive. He has a thread on it though = search
PSS - OBTW....Efficiency - The Pierburg CWA50 pumps twice the [GPM x head] as the OEM Bosch for the same Watts (~50W) = technology (don't get hot) - but also they ain't cheap at $250 up.

Got curious after running the car and it ran FANTASTIC, kind of shocked me how great it ran. I finally had some time to take the old pump apart and as you can see the same problem many of you have found. It was shot ! So glad to have found this site I have learned so much about the srt6 . I am still reading and learning new things everyday.
