Help please
I have a noise under the hood and thought the belt tensioner when I just check I found a plastic rim coming out of the crank pulley. It's about 25 to 30% out on one side but still flush around the rest of the pulley.
I tried the search and found nothing---any help?
Grip Grip---If you have and idea it would be great. I am the guy near you that bought the K& N's from you a few years ago.
Thanks all
Jimmy

Thanks to all of you---It's been a while since I have been on but I knew help was here.
I knew it wasn't good but wanted to hear the backup.
Looking for the part now.
Leads here would help too.
Miles on the SRT---27,400.
Also---Steve aka Crazy32
I read the link above and I am in Nashville---If you still have that toll it would be great---It looks like I will be doing this. Thanks Jimmy.

The part should have the Mercedes part number visible buy the part using that number, not the Chrysler part number.
Yep---That's it Onehundred80
I looked at your thread---which is great---but did not see the procedure for R&R.
I may have missed it---If it is there for the crank pulley could you please tell me which one---THANKS.
It sucks at 27k but so is life at times. My rubber is nice and clean but it's out a good 1/2 inch at the max and then tappers back in. Like I said, 25% or so out around the pulley and then the rest is flush.
It is parked until repair---looking at sites now for the part and the tool too.
Steve is near by but I do not know him---We talked a couple of times a few years ago but that's it.
He offered me to come "wrench" when I bought my car but it only had 917 miles at the time.
Thanks again----I knew help was here.

I know I will get chastised for this, but if the rubber is not cracked, I would try tapping it back in. THen run it and see if it runs true. If it seems OK, then keep an eye on it. Worse case you get more time to get a replacement part.
Have you ever tried something like this?
This would be like trying to get the genie back into the bottle. The pulley has failed and should be replaced immediately before running the car.
Now think about that and stand in the corner. LOL
How to make your own tool to loosen the crankshaft bolt. Notice there are two types of pulley, the SRT one has more ribs (8) than the NA one which has six.
Definitely buy a new bolt.
Another type of crankshaft locking tool.

Like I said. I expected this. But it is not a grenade with the pin pulled. I'm sure it has been getting gradually worse over THOUSANDS of miles. Look at the pictures of failed ones, way beyond just rubber coming out, they are cracked/separated/missing rubber. Without seeing it, the issue might not be impending doom.
That rubber isolator ring is almost 2" wide. If it looks like it's coming out you're going to lose a chunk, that's all. I took one of the OEM crank pulleys apart thinking that was just a spline. Knowing what I know now, I say fill it with epoxy.
That rubber is a damper for vibrations and at one time it was a homogenous mass, if some of it has separated common sense would dictate that the remainder is compromised. This is not something to play around with, replacement is the safest option, everyone should check their pulley for signs of failure.
I would still be looking for the cause of vibration, leaping to conclusions as to the cause may leave you with a new crankshaft pulley without curing the vibration.
I am trying to add a picture of what it should look like for us to reference. I found this picture...is this how it should look? If so, this might be my vibration sound I am hearing as it appears half of the crank pulley is missing this gasket/rubber fill...maybe out of balance. Nothing is protruding, just all of it does not appear to be there. Will find out for sure when I install my new alternator if the sound goes away.
