So it appears the engines of both the 32AMG (M112) and the SRT-6 (also M112) are identical but Mercedes notoriously posted the hp/torque figures nearly 7% higher.
So back in 2005, if you took a stock SLK32AMG and a stock SRT-6 off the show room and went head-to-head, who would win the 0-60 and who'd win the 1/4 mile?
Looking to add one more 2-seater to the repertoire.... ;>)
I see how I may have confused the conversation. I was suggesting to him that if he wanted the Crossfire Roadster, then perhaps he may like the faster SRT6.
Why??empirical study: Because those cars are made in Germany and not USA (better quality=> faster car) . The drivers commonly and usually have more brain and don`t ask stupid questions (more brain=>faster reaction times=>better ET quartermile). Also (allready seen on this forums) Crossfire SRT6 drivers commonly eat more fastfood => bad power to weight ratio.

with the slk32 weighting 3075
and the srt6 weighting 3220
both are made in germany on the same assembly line. the slk 170 chassis ended 2001 the crossfire started in 2003 for the 2004 model year
the 17" tires on the mercedes were easier to turn, the 18 and 19's slowed the srt6 down
so THE MERCEDES WOULD WIN ,, and did don't forget the srt is detuned slightly
at the 1/8 mile the mercedes is in the lead and the crossfire can't catch it.

The SRT weight you give is the coupe weight - actually 3,240 lbs according to the specs. The roadster weight is 3,328 lbs according to the specs.
In the video and the talk arranged by harbour and given in the Woodward meet hotel in Detroit in 2010 by two engineers on the Crossfire team, it was stated that the SRT6 engine was not detuned at all, the ads just said that it was lower in hp.
Tuners state the official figures which make the gains on the SRT look bigger than they are.
The top speeds stated are set by limiters, they can go faster.

the mercedes
Not according to the Chrysler guys involved the SRT6 was not detuned but for a reason, I forgot the SRT6 might have made a few more HPe than the MercQUOTE]
One wonders if some of the discrepancies were "negotiated" as marketing ploys to differentiate between the two versions? Weight certainly is a small part to play. Sounds like the jury is out on whether the detuning took place- I would have my doubts as well.
Agree the order is SRT Coupe > SLK32 with top up > SRT roadster. But the differences come down more to the driver than the car and all are hampered by the automatic. In an autocross or tight road course I'd match my 6-speed Crossfire Coupe with UTQG 100 tires & Wavetec against any of the above.
SLK is more of a boulevard cruiser and I prefer to the roadster for two reasons: retractable hardtop and more leg room. Otherwise the two are identical (well the SRT has more fender flares for the larger tires - stock Crossfire wheels and tires on an SLK hit the rear fender lips.
