I know that there is multiple threads on tires and tire sizes for our cars and have looked through them. It seems that there hasn't been much discussion on what tires people are running lately. I need to replace the tires on my wife's srt6. She is a very spirited driver if you know what I mean. We also get a lot of rain where I am at (north Alabama) so wet and dry traction are important to me.
I know many are running larger then stock tire size on the fronts and rear of the 6's for better traction. What is optimal tire size and does anyone have good recommendations for a more recent tire? Looking into possibly the firestone indy 500.
If you are concerned about driving in the rain do not run tires wider than those recommended on the door frame. The wider the tire the greater the chance of hydro planning. I run Michelin Pilot A/S3+ just for that reason. They run good dry or wet. When it is raining hard keep it at 55mph. I was coming out of Birmingham one afternoon in a good rain driving an eighteen wheeler and running 55 just because of the rain. Two cars passed, ignoring the wet road conditions and sure enough, they lost control and spun in a circle ending up well off the roadway in the grass and mud. When it is wet slow down.
I ha e 285/35 michelin plus zp, they are a directional all season tire and do great in the rain, for rain I like a good directional tread, and rotating by anointing, flipping and remounting, somewhat was on the inside is now on the outside, helps with one high camber.
But general rule is a wider tire is easier to hydroplane.
The 285 zero preaaure will "not" fit factory trims, will have problems seating, I have 19x11 on rear.
And I have adjustable camber arms flattening out the tread, rolled the fenders when adjusted camber.
I had 275 gmax 's did good in the rain, goodyear eagles where the worst I have owned, had the continental dws and dws 06, they are descent.
Front iron 235 Yokohama avid ENVIGOR, made in USA, they do good on the front.
ask for the wear number( hardness of the rubber) on the tire 400 wears 40 to 60,000 miles BUT is not the best for rain or dry,,, get a tire around 300 or less for better grip wet and dry, the unroyal was the best rain tire but 15 to 20000 miles and you had to replace them they had a wear number of 240 (I think)
one of the worse tires for wet driving is the hankook V jim

I would put up the goodyear eagle F1 's against those, only thing they where good for would be a burnout compitition, lasted 8k miles and I couldn't get traction on mild driving, they grip on dry pavement is comparable as my michelins do on packed snow.
And the Goodyear's where the most expensive tire I tried.
I have the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on my roadster. Quite and lots of grip on dry pavement, but they are summer tires and have never seen rain.
I am partial to Michelin every time I try something different I am disapointed. They do make an all weather for our cars.My last experience with goodyear eagles, they were loud and downright dangerous in the rain.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+ is all season tire. I have run them now for several years. The tires 4x4 speakes of are the same all sason tires as the A/S3 + but are the run flat tire which Michelin refers to as zero pressure or "zp" as 4x4 so states.
for what it's worth, i am running stock sized nitto tires. living in south florida we get a tremendous amount of rain between 6/1 and 12/1 and i have no problems what so ever. i had several bad experiences with michelins in the past, so i have been using hankooks on my vette and the nittos on my srt6 roadster for a while now. both perform well wet or dry in my opinion.
Been running Continental Barum Bravuris 3HM (European Continentals) since July 2016, super quiet and excellent handling. Price was AWESOME, shop for best but I found mine at discount tire direct (with a rebate).

I am sooo glad to hear this . My car came with new Eagle F1's . The more performance mods I do the slower the car because these things feel like ice skates . Its hard to believe how bad they suck wet or dry . The problem is they have a lot of tread on them and i'm too cheap to get rid of them . Cant wait to get something new on the rear . Surprised to see multiple people running different manufacturers front to rear .
