Unhappy Engine Control Module

My SRT-6 will not start sometimes, and mechanic thinks it is the ECM. Major problem is that he says neither Chrysler or Mercedes supplies a replacement, nor can you get it programmed. If this is the case, my car is dead. Any thoughts, this is crisis?

What mechanics think and the actual problem are often poles apart.
Describe your problem in more detail to get good answers.

My guess is the RCM is going bad. It can be the solder joints or the relays going bad. It is plug and play any you can install it yourself. If you buy a new one send the old one to DJ Tighed, have it rebuilt and keep it as a spare. Is your mechanic a Mercedes mechanic?

One other thing, the ECMs rarely go bad.

Mostly like Chrysler since they have to be programmed to your VIN. The problem is Chrysler dealerships for the most part dont won't anything to do with a crossfire.

As others have said, are you certain it is the ECM. They rarely fail, and by rare I mean lotto jackpot mega millions rare. What exactly are you being told? Just because your car does not start does not mean its the ECM, it could be the skreem which is something different.

Start with the RCM !!! It is a simple inexpensive fix known to fail and cause the symptoms you describe.

There is a sticky on this site from TJ TIGHED who repairs the RCMs very reasonably.

YOU DON'T NEED ONE. ECMs don't fail very often, and when they do, that is the ONE time I saw one fail, the car would not start at all.

THIS. Do this.

NOW. My money is on, in descending order, RCM, Crank sensor, battery (yes, a weak battery will spin the engine over, yet not provide the required 10.6 volts or so needed to make the ECU work - hence your 'mechanic' thinking the ECU is bad), fuel pump, etc....

I would follow everyone's advice first. My Ecu failed and i ordered a used one from ebay off a slk32, then had beckmann technologies Virginize my Ecu and my local mercedes indie shop transferred my vin from old ecu to new used one for about 200$.
