Needswings CAI vs DCAI?
Hey! I have been doing a lot of reading on here about the CAI and DCAI. I here a lot of conflicting opinions about them. Some people say the DCAI is so much better, others say the CAI is plenty fine.
I am a strong believer in doing things right the first time around. That’s why I’m inclined to buy the DCAI, but I just can’t seem to justify all that money. My main goal for getting a new intake is to let the engine breath better, so I can hear the SC louder. Which one will get me to my goal?

My opinion - it really depends on what your long term goals are. I purchased a stock SRT6 in February. The only mods that a have made thus far are Needswings DCAI and Oil Catch Can. To me it seems like low hanging fruit, an incremental 13whp for the DCAI (25 vs. 38) for $270 worked for me. I love the power. I will be considering pulley changes in the future. My goal is to obtain the most acceleration with still maintaining decent reliability.
You can always paint the intakes yourself and save the additional $100.
I hope this helps, Duke

Needswings claims 12-13 r.w.h.p. gain OVER the single. Total of 37 r.w.h.p., and an additional 128 c..f.m. OVER the single. With my dual Extreme filters, I can attest to much louder SC whine. Probably just as much whine with the standard dual filters I'm guessing. For me it was a no-brainer, but yeah, it's a bit more greenbacks. The dual also has the much cooler look factor going for it.
DCAI does improve power, albeit for some more money.
The CAI with the larger filters will have the same amount of whine as the DCAI with normal filters? So does that mean if I go all out for the DCAI with larger filters I will get A LOT of whine?

Can I just use normal spray paint for the intake? Or does it have to be some sort of heat resistant enamel or corrosion resistant stuff?
Sounds to me that it will be worth it shelling out the extra 300 for the DCAI
Needswings is reevaluating their SRT6 pulley mods. Per Rob, there have been some price increases that they are trying to manage. It is not cheap, but their strategy was to change 5 pulleys I believe. Price was $1,100, not sure what the future pricing is. I am not a mechanic, so I was intending on following mods designed by the experts. SRT-6.com has some basic info on their site regarding pulleys that I found beneficial.
Regarding paint, you can buy a Rustoleum or Dupicolor heat resistant paint for $10 +/- a can.
Update: Looks like Needswings updated their website in the last day or so: https://www.needswings.com/asp-178mm-kit-psk178 And, it appears that Needwings does not reduce the SC pulley diameter

Oh interesting that looks new. I also found under the used market place on Needswings that they have a CAI to DCAI. Maybe what I could do is buy the CAI and if i’m not happy with that, buy the CAI to DCAI conversion? I just don’t know if that is a one off thing, or a production piece, and I would hate to have it leave and be left with a CAI that i’m not happy with

My opinion buy a sprint booster or pedal commander first. That should be your first mod. If I could redo my mod list, I'd go a sprint/pedal throttle mod first.
My first mod was a DCAI and it did give me more power and increase the blower whine, however about 2 weeks ago installed a pedal commander and I said then I should have done that first. The throttle lag on a crossfire is atrocious.

I suggest contacting Rob at Needswings to discuss. Then you can make an informed decision:
