I did find this place and it's only about a nice Xfire's drive away...
eShine Canada: Porter Cable 7424XP Swirl Buster Kit

but we're still talking two bills...
I ended up buying my one there, free shipping over $150 so why bother wasting gas.

Red face Re: Polishing Speed?

I just received the Lake Country pad set with the backing plate and centering post. But for the all gyrations I've done I don't see how the centering post works. It doesn't attach to anything. I feel real dumb, but how does that ^*)^%&*)( thing work? I'm anxious to go to work on my coupe but can't get the pads centered.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, St. Catharines is a lot closer than Caledon and I'm impatient!! Actually wanted it this weekend. My plan is to do my winter beater ('98 Cirrus) and my wife's Focus wagon to practice for the real thing.

And since when is driving a Xfire a waste of gas????

Great idea to practice on another vehicle.

Once you do a couple, you will gain confidence, and skill.

The centering post from Lake Country is designed to be used with their pads that have a center hole when attaching them to the rotary backing plate, which also has a centering hole. You stick the post in the hole (without trying to conjure up all sorts of perverted imagery - I know you guys on this forum pretty well!!) on the backing plate, drop the pad over the post, and remove the post.

On a D/A this exact centering of the pad is not anywhere near as critical as it is on a rotary due to the oscillating action of the D/A. Just eyeball it real good and you'll be fine.

Thanks Mike,

I purchased the set of pads with the backing plate but the plate didnt come with the centering hole line up. I'll just make one in it. I can drill down from the back side. I kinda thought that was the way it supposed to work. The velcro covers the entire backing plate.

thanks again

No, no, no! Don't go drilling into the backing plate - just forget about the centering stick. You do NOT need it on a D/A buffer - pad centering is NOT critical with this buffer. Just throw the darn thing away and forget about it. You really don't need to start overcomplicating a very simple process. Please, trust me on this.

Okay. I haven't destroyed it yet. I'll just go easy and eyeball it.
Thanks.

return the lake country pads and purchase the lake country "kompressor" pads. simple to stick on the velcro and they wrap around the edge so as not to cut edges.
