How can there be so much driveline loss in hp on this car? 160 hp?

Many Porsche S2s have been dyno and that car only has 208 hp 4 cylinder and it regularly puts down 180 rwhp.

Confused!!!

Well I Made A Call To Modacar... apparently Another Member From The Forum... Called As Well... Beat Me To The Call...

any which...

"modacar Told Me That The "traction Control" (as He Stated)was Turned Off Manually... Just Pulling Fuses Will Not Do The Job As The "Traction Control System... Will Still Send Out Its Signals...

He Didn't Remember Where To Shut It Off...?!

HDDP/WOODY... DOES THIS SOUND FEASIBLE TO YOU GUYS? OR IS IT A CROCK?! "TO MANUALLY SHUT IT OFF".

THANKS...

It's possible they found away to turn it off, its more complicated than just switching off the TC/ESP switch on the dash. Maybe they did it through the OBD. I can't believe they don't know how they did it, if they actually did. My dyno guy knows most of the tricks to foil TC systems, and we tried all the ones he knew. Like HDDP says the thing wouldn't even run on the dyno without popping fuses. I actually popped 17 and 18, not the main F5 (I think) in the ECU compartment like HDDP did. I might even ring Modadcar myself - I just don't understand all this 'smoke and mirrors' stuff. If I find out how to disable the TC without resorting to the 'electrickery' route I am taking then I would gladly post how it’s done.

Simon.

We're talking about two very different issues with running a dyno on the car. First is the traction control which absolutely cannot be fully disabled by just turning off the switch. The fuses in the ECU housing must be pulled otherwise the car just bogs down as soon as you start running the dyno.

Second are the other aspects of the ESP, traction control, anti lock brakes and front wheel speed sensors which, as you well know, don't have a switch. This system prevents the car from running at any rpm higher than 5,000 with just the rear wheels turning. It effectively cuts the engine at 5K. This was proven by both Woody's and my Dyno runs.

Per my conversation with the regional service manager for DC, the only way to prevent this cut-out is to fool the sensors into thinking the front wheels are turning at the same speed as the rears. Even if you pull the fuse for the front sensors or disable them, the engine will cut-out at 5,000 rpm. Also, as far as he knows, there is no dyno mode in the DRBIII.

So basically as far as we know thus far, a full RPM dyno cannot be accomplished with this car until Woody come-up with a circuit that fools the front sensors.

The odd thing is that the SLK320 has a built-in dyno mode but that mode has been removed from our cars. My guess is that the dyno they have posted is from a SLK320 and they just fudged it to appear to be a Crossfire.

ahhh... that seems most logical... using the SLK data...

as far as calling... i didn't catch his name... didn't want to corner him too much... but he seemed quite helpful.... the kid that answered said he was new to the job and passed me over to the tech...

i was going to call him back and invite him to this thread... but i don't want to muss things up... for you guys IF modacar found a "way" to trick or get the genuine results... esp. if you were going to give them a call...

let me know...

No problem Josh, I am quite happy to ditch my dyno gadget work and eat humble pie if they know better and have away to dyno the car. All I am really interested in, and I am sure the same goes for HDDP, is being able find a way to dyno the throughout my development programme. The dyno issue is just an annoying side issue that is preventing further progress. I don't see it as an end in itself.

So Simon ... i will give it a shot asking modacar questions and or to join the forum/thread... or will you call directly cutting out the middleman???

however HDDP makes total sense that it seems that it will end up with the creation of your "XFwidget" that will do the trick...

... and if the data provided to elow is true based on the slk320 power plant, wouldn't it still be pertinent to the XF's 320 engine? ...but as Mayaman stated... the numbers still seem wrong with the driveline loss...

i will call if i don't see a post from you (as you are six hours ahead of me...)

by the way WHO HERE AT this thread CALLED MODACAR BEFORE I DID??? and what did they say?
(tuesday morning)

thanks

Josh: I was the one who called and spoke with the "dyno tech" at Modacar, his name is KC. I'll be happy to tell you ALL about our conversation if you want to give me a call 310.291.1372...

In a nut shell, ELOW's dyno is bogus.

I even went as far as calling evo sport to verify the dyno issues with the crossfire... too much information to put into a post... so if you want the skinny, give me a call.

So essentially this dyno chart is completely embellished?

What did this KC say he did to disable TC?

All I'm saying is the car will not run over 5,000 rpm on a dyno and nobody I have spoken with (professionals) knows how to make it do so. So, you be the judge on his dyno that shows 6,200 rpm !!!

Now let's drop the subject. If you want to see a real "stock" baseline dyno take a look at Woody's. Then you can compare mine, which is from my slightly modified car.

Has any one here ever hooked up a portable Gmeter gadget to a XF? You always see them advertised on speedvision. This way you'll be able to see what the car actually is putting to the ground in a real world situation.

I hear they're pretty accurate. And it gives you hp/tq numbers not sure if it have a graph. Runs about $250 - 350.

BUT SOMEHOW IT WOULD BE BETTER TO HAVE IT INTEGRATED INTO THE INTERIOR...

HERE IS THE CONCEPT'S LOCATION PASSENGER SIDE DASH:

That would have been a fun toy but I sure like the production interior better.

Hmmm...Today on the dyno I got about 195 lb/ft torque to the wheels with the rear speed sensors disengaged. My car is stock. On Friday I will be playing with the car once again to try to disable the limiter to go up to 6,100 ish rpm. The limited stopped at 4,200 rpm. On the first run, with the rear speed sensors in tack, I lost 20 ish horsepower.

Hey Golfdude, did you just pull the rear speed sensor connections at the wheels and get a full redline run? Mine will just throw a code and gives me a 5,000 rpm limit if I disconnect any or all of the sensors. Is yours a 6 speed or an Auto?

EDIT - Also forgot to ask if it was a belt driven 4 wheel dyno like TimeLord found?
