Engine Temp
Everyone,
I have read in the past where people are trying to reduce their operating temps on the SRT's and other than a thermostat swap, they were not sucessful. I too tried one bottle of water wetter. No difference. I then put in a second bottle. No difference. I thought what the heck and a few weeks later put in a 3rd bottle. My thought was since the capacity is larger than average with the intercooler etc., maybe the ratio was just too small to make a difference. Today I drove it with the 3rd bottle and the temp guage remained a full needles width below half way and before it was at the half way mark. The other interesting thing was I can now see the results of the thermostat opening and closing meaning that the guage will gradually move back and forth as the thermostat compansates another needles width below the new mark. Just thought I would pass this along to those that discussed trying to lower the temps in the past.

Hello,
Another good way to reduce operating temps is to flush your cooling system. We flushed our car and replaced it with a 50/50 blend of distilled water and antifreze with one bottle of water wetter. We do have a modified thermostat, but the car runs much cooler. Only time we get really hot is while racing. Three bottles of Water Wetter can get expensive.
Thanks,
Anthony

It's 49 degrees here tonight and my car was just a tick over 1/2 way in easy driving. Is this normal, it seamed high to me. I need all the cooling I can get. Is the Thermostat easy to change? If so what part # do I need.
just remember this is not a carburated v8 ... meaning the computer has a preset cold start mode it will run in until the coolant reaches a specific temperature, while in this mode fuel mixture and timing are much different than at normal operating range. putting different thermostats and coolant additives in may just bring you down low enough that the ECU stays in cold start mode. my previous experience with a few vehicles all resulted in retarded timing and a rich fuel mixture. not sure how the programming in the crossfires ECU reacts to colder temps or where the cold start mode cutoff is.
Anthony can probably answer that much better as he uses and sells a cooler thermostat...

I'm trying to understand the need to lower engine temp. and maybe I am missing something. It seems most owners see temperatures at the midway mark plus or minus a needle's width. Let's say for arguments sake that after flushing and changing the coolant with the right mixture and adding additives that on a really hot summer day the temperature went to the three quarter mark. Isn't this part of a normal operating range designed into the car taken into consideration by the engineers?
Now if owners are concerned about intake air temperature then the modifications should be directed at the intercooler and related system and not the engine temperature.
By the way, my car runs at the halfway mark in city driving and needle's width below halfway during freeway driving.

2 Bottles ofRoyal Purple Purple Ice did the trick for me. I got the same result. At least one full needle width below the half mark. While cruising it's lower than that.
