The intermittent light could also be an intermittent connection in the wiring of the lighting circuit. Possibly a wire working it's way out of the connector/harness. Or a bad ground. About 60% of all electrical problems are bad grounds.

Crossfires aren't known to rust (insert sarcasm here)

If the temp is going up that high you should get it looked at asap before it causes some serious damage. It could a relay or something more.

Is it sill under warranty? I wish I could help more but it's hard to diagnose something over the internet. It does sound like a electrical pproblem if the coolant level light is coming on and the reservoir is full.

How many miles on it? With a car like this it might be worth looking into getting an extended warranty.

Don't leave out the possibility, (remote) of a weaping head gasket or cracked head. Odds are unless the car was severly overheated before your ownership this would not be the case.

Also, speaking from personal experience the Mopar thermostats in the V8's in 04 and 05 were defective, the one in my Hemi was replaced at 22K after coming apart, that is a common thread in the LX forums

well i found out from the chrysler service center that the light is associated with the fan. the fans not kicking on when it should (in traffic, w/ the a\c on, etc.) so i need a diagnosic done just to see what the deal is and thats gonna run $100 bux alone. sucks being a college kid, i can't afford this. BTW i probably won't be going to the meet at the speedway though i only live 5 miles away. my XF is sick.

having coolant problems myself. That damn low-coolant light is always on, even though I just topped off the coolant reservoir. thermo is telling me temperature is fine; I'm guessing its a just a bad ground, too lazy to whip out a multimeter...

after my service center tried tellin me it'd be 800 bux to fix it, i figured out it was the fan. 70 bux on ebay. try puttin ur AC on and see if the fan kicks on. the module was tryin to kick it on but it would work and thats why the coolant light would periodically comne on.

My cooling fan went out on my '04 and it wasn't covered under the recall. It's not hard to replace yourself if you're inclined. I got a new fan and shroud assembly for around $100 on eBay. FWIW, I wouldn't want another factory fan if they're junk to begin with.

alright, traced my cooling problem down to the fan relay. To hell with dealer 94$ diagnostic fees. Just cut a speaker wire in half and used the 4 ends (positive to positive, neg to neg)to check for connectivity and see if the fan is working. which is was.
DAMN YOU MERCEDES BENZ for making such complicated relays!!! or as they like to call them, "auxilliary fan control modules". Ironically, on the the old MBs and BMWs, you could always switch a broken relay with chrysler relays, since they were almost identical, as long as you know which wire goes where. Now...

its like a 150$ part...when a normal relay should be like 50$ MAX. damn. To make matters worse, neither the chrysler nor the MB dealerships have them in stock. And i have a club cruise this weekend. I might end up making a halfass switch for like 10$ and run the wires through that. ON/OFF. 2 settings

Just got back from trying to get the part from local dealers. Mercedes wants 251$, Chrylser wants 220$.

Found one on Ebay for 80$+20 shipping.

But alas, for now, I'm just going to run a simple switch so i can go on a weekend cruise without worrying about overheating...
