Advertising Vent
Been a member of this forum for some time now and am getting considererably annoyed by companyies promoting their products on an enthusiasts site.
Either tip in some money to help the guys run this thing or go away.
The main result has been second rate products, people ripping people off, or "expert "opinions with no explanation, facts, or supporting documentation.
Even better are no registered business names, no ability to check the companies out with the BBB , Chamber of Commerce or other organisations and most operating out of residential adresses.
Everybody has friends in "High" places but you dont promote your wares on a community forum that is called ethics.
Frankly if your business is that good run a good web page and place advertisments in the appropriate press. Sure monitor what is said on forums and use that to develope products but please keep this an "open" forum.
Example HDDP has done a lot of work on his car are is a valuable source of information and experimentation, doesn't do it for money just passes on his experience for the good of the forum.
Pointing fingers, jumping up and down. END OF VENT

Hugo, I definitely see your point. But at the other end we don't have many aftermarket products available for the Crossfire. If it weren't for some of the members getting into the development of some products, we would have none. Some of these guys have offered to pay the forum for advertisement, but that's not something the owner of this forum wants to do. That is why Julian created the Market Place forum, so we can sell our wares there. True, I think we need better structure and have much room for improvement.
I for one don't mind the advertising. Otherwise I might not find what I'm looking for. Most of the companies seem on the up & up. All of the forum discussion generated by advertising is informative also.
I definitely appreciate what Hugo is saying as a general proposition, but in reality the best place to vet these new suppliers is right here on this forum. Of course enthusiasts are their target market, but we're also their strongest critics. If there's something very good or very bad about a new product, we will know it first, and from other enthusiasts with similar (and hopefully knowledgeable) backgrounds and interests. So if Mighty doesn't mind, there's no harm in keeping the status quo, IMHO.
I am yet to have a product to really offer hopefully the pod will be along soon, but I remember awhile back a thread about donations and the ADMIN said politely no thanks He does it for fun and it is free from him. I don't mind guys trying to get there name out here and sell products, I know fore sure LET, NEEDSWINGS, and TVT should get some kind of banner or tunner section or something it would stop a lot of newbees from asking questions they dont want to search for, they could just click a link. As far as banners go We have all been to benz world and it is annoying as hell so much to the point where i check there the least amount.
I suggest a sponsor section and when a newbee logs in for the first time a pm is sent to them refering to some of the links we believe they should read first before they post, and before they ask questions... Then lol we send them to link where they can let us all know what they just bought, and we can tell them welcome lol
IS this more of a vent lol ?
