Check Engine Light is driving me mental
Hey I hope you can help me, fellow Crossfire owners. I have a 2004 Coupe, (I bought it in August) and left it sitting for a couple months in the winter (Dec 1st - Feb 1st). I live in Canada so it gets cold...anyway I'm not even sure if that's relevant. Basically my check engine light has been coming on for the past couple days and I don't know what to do. The first time it happened I tried putting oil in the car and it went off right away. Today it came back on again, and I tried putting oil in again - well turns out it's not the oil so it must be something else. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also if you have had to repair something in relation to this do you have an estimate of how much it cost you (Can or US $$$?) Thanks a lot for your help! I'm frustrated and starting to get mad at the car...

Many auto parts stores will read codes for free.
The code will give you a starting point.
Once you have a code#, post again many people here will have ideas.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum, Lots of info and great people.

This is why I hate the Forum reseting so often. we just had a thread on this today. I got my CEL fixed inside an hour, right her, by the guys on the forum.
FREE!
It may or may not be the same problem but damm, it was a good place to start.
Tighten your gas cap.
Then disconnect the negative side of the battery for two minutes.
Reconnect and start the engine. See if it goes off.
Costs you nothing but time.
Check out the comments and the time line in the SRT forum.

For some reason the light has gone off...I tried tightening the gas cap and this may have helped (but not sure?) now my car is fine although it's blinking "High" with an oil symbol where the odometer usually reads. I guess this means i put too much oil in it. Either way if the engine light is only a wiring issue and doesn't come back for a while I'm not going to worry about it.
Thanks for all your help!

You need to get the oil level back down to normal. Foam is not a good thing when it comes to oil....and too much will definitely cause foaming. Then go have a beer...with lots of foam.

The bad part is ther overfilled oil, the excess should be removed.
Removal of the oil is probably best done by the local garage, they can draw it out with a pump or get lucky pulling the drain plug and get an appropriate amount out without getting burned. Don't suppose it is time for an oil change anyway?.
An easy way to take the desired amount of oil out: stick a shop vac in the fill hole with a rag to give a good seal, unscrew the oil plug and turn the shop vac off to let just a bit of oil come out and restart after desired level is reached, and re-install the plug. I learned this trick at a Jiffy Lube when they had to replace a bad oil plug on my car. If the seal is good you shouldn't even lose a single drop of oil, until you trun the shop vac off.
