Default Oil change 5W-40

I recently had an oil change at my Chrysler dealer. They put Valvoline Synpower 5W-40 oil in the car and since then my engine has been shaking at idle. I took it back to them and they tell me the problem is not related to the oil. Could they right or are they just fooling around with me?

Make sure the oil cap is on tight, the dipstick fully in, and that none of the vacuum hoses are off.

Was it at least synthetic? If not, get them to at least use synthetic, or do it yourself or go someplace else!!!

Going from 0w40 to 5w40 shouldn't be a problem at all. Now if you were driving the car in sub-zero weather, I would see how it cranks up in the morning if left outside.

Since Walmart sells 5w40 Mobil 1 in 4 or 5 qt jugs, I will probably switch up next time.

You could put 8 1/2 quarts of cooking oil in the thing and it would have nothing to do with shaking at idle. Sounds more like a bad tank of gas.

Good luck.

Ah, just out of curiosity... why did they not use Mobile 1? Was that your choice or theirs?? BTW, agree it probably has nothing to do with the vibration... but if they did that to my car I would be furious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I go to a very reputable dealership and still find the following issues after an oil change

1 - The engine cover is never re-secured and rattles at idle or low speeds.
There are four clips - they usually only secure one or two and not even properly.
Snap it in place and the engine is quieter and smoother.
It took me a while to figure this out, but it just lifts straight up...youll see.

2 - On two occasions they only put six litres, not eight.
Have fun explaining this quirk to the service dept or techs.

I did not have an option on which oil that was going to be used. I left the car to be looked at and don't know what is wrong with it yet.

You always have the option, especially if you are paying for it.

I would take them Mobile 1 and replace it and then if it cures the problem then you know!!! I hope it was synthetic at least..... Wait getting ahead of myself.... did it do this when you brought it in? Ok, now if it cures the issue and yes it could be expensive, I would ask for a full refund and then have them pay for new oil and a new filter!!! Then let heads start rolling!! If you continue to have problems, check the above listed, all caps secure, right amount of oil etc, make sure plug wire did not get loose ( should not really have been touched, but hey drooling kid changing oil forget things sometimes). Bad gas put some rolaids in the tank, and check back in the morning... On the serious side I would check the fuel filter for being clogged with crap.. I only go to one gas station in town... Out of town, beggers cant be choosers....

there is a sticker in plain sight under the hood, that says mobile 1 0w40, probably for a reason. When I bought mine I asked for an oil change knowing that the oil was pretty expensive. hopefully they aren't trying to mask a problem. chris
If it was my car, i would take it back and let them eat the price of the oil. if it is not recommended they shouldn't have used it.

I got the car back and it seems like the problem is with the oxygen sensors.
