Hi,

My crossfire (Roadster/Automatic) idles at about 500 rpm when in drive...and dips below that sometimes at lights. I would like to raise the idle up to 550-600 rpm when in drive gear.

Does anyone know how to raise the idle? Is there an "idle screw adjustment"? I know the engine computer controls the idle based on a number of factors, like temperature.

Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

 

BRappaport, sorry to say there is no idle adjustment screw. Its all electronic, and from what I read here (I'll be surely flamed if its wrong but) there is no way to get into that rpm adjustment without very expensive ECU read/programming equipment. OK, time for me to lear about go-arounds from the more knowledgeable XF mechs out there!

 

You can adjust the idle through the Star Diagonstics within a limited range, maybe 500-750(?).

 

I've wondered about this, too. I bet there IS a way... just waiting for Rudy to confirm it.

 

Any shop with a Star Diagnostics can raise your idle. I have had mine adjusted twice.

 

Iam on the road in fla walking lighthouses
but it is easynpiezzi to raise idle. Just introduce
some air into the TB. Find and pop off a vacuum
hose and idle goes up but get too greedy and
Mother MB will protest and limit you. You can start
with the TB off and it willrun roughly but run it will.
A small leak is all u need. Try a tee in the vac line but
not brake vac line. Enjoy. Woody

 

What was your reason for raising your idle...and why did you have to do it twice?

Also, is "Star Diagnostics" a type of OBDII reader...and is it only Dealers that have this equipment?

Also...the thread about rough engine idle..when stopped at lights...this is my major reason for asking this question...since when the air or heater are on with the lights on and it loads down the engine, my rpm's drop down into that low 450rpm range...and I get that rough engine idle for 3-5 seconds.

Therefore, I wanted to raise the idle so the engine will not go below 550 rpm.

Any additional comments or thoughts are appreciated.

Star Diagnostics - meaning the MB Laptop that the dealers & indy shops hook up to your car. I wish it was an OBDII reader we could pick up cheaply.

The shop I use lowered the idle to the minimum setting (500 rpm I think). After some additional mods the idle seemed a bit low so next visit I had them raiser it back up.
