Default Battery Acid Ate My Line!

Well, today I got a chance to clean the engine and noticed the the battery had lots of corrosion. Pulled the battery and found a clear hose (Wiper Line?) that was eaten away entirely! The other line was still wrapped in electrical tape (Brake Line?) but still looks fine. I will let it dry out tonight then rust proof it and re-route the lines in the morning. I'm thinking this was caused by me jumping my sisters car a week ago.

Am I correct in assuming the clear line is the wiper line? What kind should I replace it with?

I remember somebody else having this issue but can't find that thread. Thx.

Talking Re: Battery Acid Ate My Line!

Jumping a battery would reduce the charge and voltage. IF you are overcharging that would create outgassing and bubbling over of the acid..

I am a big proponent of getting the digital plug into the lighter voltmeter from walmart for about $20. Then you can see the actual voltage while driving under real world conditions.

Enjoy, Woody

Bubbling over is not good, sign of a high voltage regulator...

I'll have to check into the digital voltimeter. My SRT6 had the "dissolved vacuum line" problem and I did not repair it. Never noticed any problems with car operation, mileage, etc this whole summer. When I roll it out this spring, I'll patch it as suggested.

I have the hard gray line under the battery tray that seems to be "eaten". When I installed my 14 lb. battery I found a mouse nest underneath the tray and after cleaning it out, the eaten line. (by mice, I believe) You know what? I still haven't investigated where it goes and what it does. I'm thinking cruise control or something like it that I've never used. Otherwise I would have noticed something not working ..... right? Rats, time to go check it out now that I've been reminded.

Pues, ya se arreglo.........oops, wrong forum. (pirate speak!) I fixed it. A little piece of rubber hose to connect the two pieces together and 10 minutes. Observations: the transmission seems to shift smoother driving calmly. The idle speed hardly moves, not that it fluctuated a lot before but now its rock solid. I tried to trace the hose without taking anything apart but couldn't. It comes from the cabin under the battery box, passes under the ECU box, between the heat shield and the firewall and then I can't see where it goes. The next time I remove the CAI I'll keep following it. But if it's broken there's a vacuum leak. So fix it.

It goes to the left rear of the intake manifold. It is attached to a small rubber hose which is attached to a nipple on the intake manifold. Where it comes from is a mystery to me.

I spent some time today trying to find it in the service manual but I need lessons in how to search. I'm curious what it connects to on the other end.

Maybe Rudy will tell us where it goes since he has pulled a couple of engines and should have had a good look at it.......

It comes from the Recirc air switchover valve in the heater box under the dash/glovebox on the passenger side.

Thanks for the info. Now I can look it up and understand why it's there and what it does.
