"04" crossfire stalls when warmed up
Hi I have a crossfire "04" model and it keeps stalling when it has warmed up and won't start untill it cools down which can be up to 75 minutes
can anybody let me know what the cause of the problem is?
First, wrong forum. This is for FORUM troubleshooting, not car troubleshooting.
Posting this in Coupe or Engine forums would be better.
Anyway, you are describing a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor. When you order one, don't accept it unless it is a BOSCH part. There are generic parts that seem to cause problems, the car came with a Bosh and I have never heard of problems with the Bosch part.
They can be ordered online from autohaus in Arizona, I think JOEtlc.com has them as well. Autohaus charges around $55, your local Chrysler dealer will charge well over $100 (but at least it will be a Bosch).
There are threads here about this, it is quite an easy replacement - search "CPS".

Here is the DEFINITIVE thread on the CPS (but there are several here): https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...on-sensor.html
Do yourself a big favor, buy an extra one. Mine still has not failed, but I have one in the trunk.
Yea, they fail THAT often.
Of course, it MAY not be the CPS, but the way you describe it, odds are, your problem is a $55 part that is easy to change and goes out on many of us.
Any "Shadetree Mechanic" can change one in 10 minutes. INstructions in the thread above.

What you mean is there are less problems with Bosch replacements.
It's like the replacement refs in the NFL, not as good as the originals. LOL

I had the very same problem with mine. She would start, run and then die when warm. Leave her for 45 mins then she would start with the engine management light on and die again. If you disconnect the battery overnight the management light goes out, she starts and runs, then when warm just dies but will crank over on the starter but not fire up till cooler some 45mins later.
The answer a very easy and takes 15 minutes to replace of the Relay Control Module (RCM).
Next to the battery there is a black oblong box, open it by sliding the two locking switches and inside the box nearest the engine is a control module about 10 inches by 2 inches with 6 connectors and is identified with an orange 40amp fuse and numerous blue fuses.
This clips out and if replaced solves your problem.
There is a stunning guide on these forums under

that guides you through its repair - I tried but it didnt work for me so I bought a second hand breakers part for £75 from scrapdoc1139 on ebay based in Lancashire UK and their address is William Entwisle

I know I'm late to the party but had to post this. My car started shutting off for no apparent reason last week (I have a gunmetal 2004 Crossfire Ltd. btw). Then it died on me on the weekend while entering an on ramp. I had traffic backed up for almost an hour until a tow-truck came. The long and the short is that after bringing it to the Chrysler stealership, they said my car was 2.5 liters short of oil. Impossible since I had recently changed the oil and had no leaks (first flag). My car wasn't burning oil either. They then said the oil was black. This was before I told them I recently had an oil change. Then I asked if it might be the Relay Control Module. The mechanic said he had never heard of that before (second flag). I called my own mechanic who usually works on the car and he spoke to Chrysler. The Chrysler mechanic changed their tune in a hurry. I told them not to touch the car and I`d get it to my own mechanic. Before leaving, I asked what it would cost out of curiosity to fix the issue. They said, it`s most likely the pcv valve. It would cost roughly $400 plus labor. I said I`d pass. After checking this forum, everyone said it`s gotta be the `crankshaft position sensor`. I had my mechanic order me one. It cost me $135 Canadian from the Mercedes dealership with same day delivery and $60 to put it in. I was in and out of my mechanics in 15 minutes. Just to be safe, he checked my oil. Turns out my oil was fine. I was about half a liter short (Chrysler charged me $135 just to check my car out and didn`t even tap up my oil as they said they would) and he said the oil may have gotten some fuel in it but otherwise it was fine. Had it not been for all the help on this forum, I would have been taken to the cleaners. Thank you to everyone who took the time to put up tutorials and give their opinions in regards to this issue. God and the internet are a blessing!
Wow. Still a little steep on price but it costs more up north I guess. Cps go out in other cars as well so it is just one of those things. RCM is a huge problem as well but soldering seems to take care of it. Two of the most common problems.
Yep up north things get pretty costly on imports. Gives a whole new meaning to "cold hard cash"! I actually pulled the RCM and performed the operation provided by tighed1 just for insurance. Still, I'd have been clueless as far as where to start looking for the problem had it not been for this forum. Once again, a huge "Thank-you very much" to all involved with the information!
