Default Please help with eng./trans. compatibility question

Please, does anybody have a clue about this? I probably have to make a decision on this today. I don't want to spend the money and haul this stuff home (and store it!) only to find out later when I need it that it won't work in my car.

Thanks ahead of time.

Original stick car engine into automatic car?

I have the option of picking up a very low mileage 2004 engine and transmission unit as a spare at a good price, but it a stick and my car is an automatic. I know the engine/trans is from a 2004 car also, but not the month it was made. My car is from the summer of 2003.

How different is the engine? Is it a matter of just exchanging the stick trans flywheel for the aurto trans flexplate on my existing engine? I have seen in some other cars (rare instances) where the actual crankshaft is different, or something else is a major pain, and the installation is not worth the hassle (making it best to look for an original A/T engine).

Usually an automatic will always bolt in place of a manual, but not the other way around. The reason for this is the pilot bearing requiring a cavity in the crankshaft. I would say if the deal is too good to pass up, pick it up.

That argument is not shown to be true in the parts list.

OneHundred80,

Please excure my ignorance, but you are saying, by the parts list, I am probably OK using the stick engine in front of my auto trans?

To both you and Moparfreak69, thanks for spending the time on a Sunday to try and help me. It is appreciated!
