Lost Cause in Performance?
I've been flipping through this site for a while and have finally come to the conclusion that the base modeled Crossfires are a lost cause when it comes to aftermarket performance. I see a lot of talk about Mercedes engine covers, and custom exhaust and throttle bodies, but is that really as good as it gets? I'm not some wealthy tuner with endless pockets, but I know there's gotta be more options out there. I get it Superchargers and turbos are just wishful thinking, but no popular ECU mods? No Bore and stroke projects? no major parts swap tricks? please correct me if I wrong I would definitely appreciate it.
How fast do you want to go? (I'm talkin in the 1/4 mile)?
The NA Crossfire is a 14 sec. car with a 6 spd. 15 sec. with an automatic (stock). Spend lot's of money, and install NOS, and just barely break into the 13's.
Or you can buy an SRT for a few thousand more, (than a Limited) and run low 13's (high 12's) "stock". Spend a few 1000 dollars more on mods, and run in the low 12's high 11's.
It's really that simple.

It is a Mercedes what comes from the factory is as good as it gets. And when it time for a rebuild on motor, tranny or rear end. It is time to scrap. The alusil coating on cylinders works great but there is only one place in the world that can do it. There are NO drop in upgrades, everything has to be custom made.

No doubt the Crossfire can handle its own storming out of the gate, but after 4th gear I'm pretty much bait to the 350z and others in that class. I was looking for a solution that would give me that extra edge, nothing major, but enough to give them a run for their money on the long stretch, hell a cam would be perfect.
The EuroCharged tune ( N/A ) wasn't mentioned above. That, along with a 74mm TB and a CAI will give you more across the band.
Most here estimate maybe 30-40 HP more, and similar torque numbers, but I have yet to see a dyno of a before and after on a N/A with these improvements.

In my opinion the best and cheapest way to get more power is to sell the N/A and buy a SRT6.
We had a lot of conversions over here in germany. Btw: we have very strict emission controls. 260 HP are possible with an N/A. We've had somebody who did it (before (203 HP) and after (264 HP) protocol on a calibrated and certified dyno). But it was loads of money. There are also compressor conversions on stock N/A M112 engines which gain around 290 HP. Only useful with a MT, because the AT tranny can't handle too much torque 330 Nm (AT) vs 400 Nm (MT). And there are the V8 conversions. But all of these conversions eat more money than a change from a N/A to a SRT6.
So, buy a SRT6, or take a look at other cars.

Jeez I forgot, in a couple of weeks a turbo will show up.
