Default Service Indicator

Brand New Crossfire - 250 miles - is showing "-198" for the A service interval. Seems odd to me, so I guess I'll have to go back to the dealership for a checkup. Spent all day driving around Napa and Sonoma today in the mixed rain and sun and had a ball.

I picked my new car up a couple weeks ago and it showed -29, I guess it goes by time since the car was built in May of 2003.( 350 miles at delivery)

Nope, it's just one of those many things that are supposed to be done and checked and set when the car enters the country and is being prepped for delivery to the dealer. All the dealer does is spit shine the car and hold his hand out for your wallet... LOL

The blame goes to the prep facility that receives the car off the ship... The knuckleheads at the dealership wouldn't know how to re-set your service computer until they read the manual... Your best bet is just do it yourself and you won't have to wait around for two hours while they read the instructions...

If the prep facility missed that small set-up, I would look at everything else very closely... The dealership should have caught that, but they really don't pay attention to squat and most of their service people just read the repair manual when there is a problem... That's why they won't let you into the service area when thy're working on your car... They don't wan't you to see them read the instructions while you're being charged $65.00 per hour...

Well, for one thing, since you have a 6spd, part of the prep is to assemble the shift **** onto the shift lever. Some people have had problems in the past with it popping off in their hands while shifting, because it wasn't assembled properly.

Twist it around a little and pull up to see if there is any play in between the **** and lever... If not, you'll be OK.

The rest of the stuff is mostly cosmetic prep. so nothing really mechanical. So, no worries.

Have fun and drive fast.

I noticed that my shift lever rocks back and forth about 1/8" and clicks when I shift. It will either get annoying or I'll stop noticing it. Is there a way to get rid of that? Is there a leather shift **** I could swap?

I bought the car at night, in the rain (part of how I got it cheap) so I'm taking it back in next Sat for detail, adjustment, etc. One of the driving lights is cracked so that will get replaced. Anything else I should ask for?

Does your shift **** rock back and forth on the shift lever ? If so, be careful when you pull up and to the left to get it in R. That is when it will pop-off in your hand... They probably didn't cinch it down properly when they installed it on the shift lever...

It's an easy adjustment / fix... But have them do it at the dealer... Of course they'll have to look in the instructions... So it may take them a whole day... LOL

Un-clip the base of the boot from the console. it attaches with 4 little clips that are molded into the rectangular ring that surrounds the base of the boot. Pull the base of the boot up over the ****, inverting it. On the base of the **** you will see a silver threaded retaining ring that screws into the base of the ****. Take a pair of pliers and loosen or tighten the ring whichever you are wanting to do...

Once you unscrew the ring, your **** will pull straight off of the shift lever and then your boot will come right off after it...

Reverse the proceedure to install... If you are going to replace with an aftermarket ****, take a close look at the shape of the shift lever at the top connection point with the ****... You will have to purchase a new **** that has a similar attachment shape, or adapter... Many "Universal" shift ***** won't fit snuggly without some sort of bushing or adapter ring...
