Car will not shift out of 1st gear when driving
Help! When I went to start car, all lights came on in dashboard. When I drove it, it would not shift out of 1st gear. Any idea what the problem is?
I'm thinking a failed Traction Control Relay on the RCM will do this. The fix would be to yank the RCM and send it to D.J. for repair or order a new one from one of the various aftermarket sources.
Of course, those of us with two or more Crossfires can swap RCMs between cars, if the issue follows the part, we know the RCM is the issue - if it stays with the car, its not the RCM. Same goes for those of us living near another Crossfire owner.
Do you live near Wilmington or GSP airport? We have members in those two places.

In the first few posts here, you will find his contact info - just keep in mind this thread is about the OTHER issue the RCM causes, it does not address how to resolve your issue:

It’s probably not first gear, it is probably second gear.. The cari is in limp mode.
It is possibly a solenoid in the transmission.

~ It is possible that a liquid spill took out the console shifter module ...that's what was wrong with one of mine plus the leaky transmission harness seal.
When my solenoid on my 300 started to fail the transmission would work fine and the next the car was driven the tranny did not work fine, it went into limp mode. Switching the car off and restarting a few times it would work fine again. This went on for awhile until it did not work fine at all. It was a slow drive to the dealership to get it fixed, my wife worked at the dealership and labor was $25/ hour, so it was not worth looking at myself. Parts were 10% over their cost.

Does this car by any chance do this if the battery goes completely decades? I work in Afghanistan and was gone for 3 months. When I got home I charged the battery and first it wouldn't shift out of park, so I found that release button and the it was in limp mode.. just curious
