So kind of noticed the noise for a while but today when I pulled in garage the sound did not stop when I turned off car. Opened hood and noticed the smog thing was squealing and would not go off when I smacked it so I just unplugged in.
Anyone have this happen and what did you do: repair or replace?

A VERY GOOD CHANCE the relay in the RCM has stuck/welded in the 'closed' position. Leave the air pump unplugged until you get a replacement RCM but you might still have to get a different air pump if it is damaged beyond normal use. IF this is the reason send your RCM to tighed1 and have it rebuilt for a spare. If your going to use it as a spare, get a new or rebuilt one so your car is still on the road. Thats my take, cannot think of anything else it could or would be. OK members, any other suggestions?

So I can drive it without causing any problems. I understand that I need it for emissions but I should have done something by the time it rolls around.

 

You can pull the 40amp fuse on the relay control module. No problem running without it. When you are ready to have the relay replaced and the RCM refurbished, email me at tighed1@hotmail.com.

 

ebay has a new listed for $135 with exactly the same part numbers; 0580000021 and A0001404385. But it says it is not compatible with my crossfire and Mercedes SLK32 AMG. My thouhgt is to go with the part numbers since the pictures show that it is like the one in the car now. Thoughts?

 

That's a good price, go order it, then send your old one to DJ for fixing, so you have a spare.

They all fail eventually, then later, they fail again - Iv'e had three Roadsters, all three of them acted up over time.

 

So I had a senior moment and forgot what a RCM repair was. I did mine about a year ago, Hoping it is still alright.
Did find a smog/ air pump on ebay that carried a square trade warranty for a year. About $140 all in.
Should be delivered Thursday and I can get rid of the check engine light. Anyway my hope is that the light came on because I unplugged the smog / air pump.

 

The air pump for the srt6 is different from the regular crossfire. As long as the one you bought looks like the one in your car you are fine.

 

replacement took about 5 minutes. it took almost a week for the check engine light to go off. Then I broke a Motor Mount.
