Default Service prices

Am i alone in thinking that over £400 is very steep for a 24k service? I got the service schedule and its nothing more than an oil and filter routine.

Phone your nearest Merc Garage and compare. DCUK are just ripping the **** out of us.

Lord Percy,

It is certainly not cheap but I paid nearly that for the 12,000 mile service. The service itself was cheap but there was another £135 for the oil. If your dealer used the proper oil then it is expensive. You do find dealers who use Shell or a substitute to keep the cost down, but this will degrade quicker and cause more engine wear.

I would rather pay the extra and have the Mobil Synthetic as I plan to keep my XF forever.

Give the garage a ring and say this seems expensive and see what they say.

Regards,

Bob

I've just found my invoice for the oil change:

labour £26.80
5.5l mobil 1 fully synth £71.23
VAT £17.16

Total £115.19

so what is the other £284.81 for?

You might want to check your oil level...seems to me that it takes 8 litres of oil.

the rest is for the "inspection" which must be getting the pope to check it over for that kind of cash.

8 litres ?

Oil level by computer check has read OK since change. Also reads Spanner (wrench) 5,800.

Slowly clawing some money back from DCUK? I doubt it , they'd charge if they spilt some oil.

I guess I am from the old school,...and I could have some trust issues, but if I am not the one who changed the oil...I always check the dipstick, computers can lie my eyes won't. Hey its your car, I could be wrong, I frequently am.

I think you aren't supposed to get new plugs until you hit 100k. I could be wrong though.

Just done an oil change myself. Yep its 8 litres (Mobil1) and it couldn't be easier to do yourself. That said my xfire is out of warranty now so no worries.
Spark Plugs shouldn't need changing till at least 70k and the NGK Iridiums are pretty expensive probably around £9 per plug I believe and you need twelve
My 1st service (12k) was quoted at £550 by DCUK but as you don't have to be tied in to dealer service for warranty purposes I used a friend in the business who was an ex Rolls Royce mechanic and he did the lot for £250.

My advice is shop around don't pay dealer prices.

In April this year, I had my first service done at Meridien Majestic, Bournemouth. Whilst there, I asked for the prices for the standard service pricing.

With effect from 01 Apr '07, this is what I was quoted and includes the usual consumables:

£220 for an "A" Service.
£294 for a "B" Service.

My car is a manual 3.2 Coupe so I don't know if there are variations for other models. However, these are the standard prices as charged by all Chrysler Dealers . . . allegedly.

Hope this info helps!

Regards,
Clive

PS. A small caution for you . . . if you decide to ask for a "courtesy" car then you should know that it's not really "courtesy" - you will have to pay for it!

Those prices look pretty good... Just before I traded it, I was stung for £300 for a 30,000 mile service for my PT Cruiser from my local Chrysler dealer plus another £300 to do the rear brakes...
