very interesting. how come we all think that the replacement "whiter" color gives us more visible light at nite? Is it just an optical illusion?

In my experience the "whiter" light seems to offer better contrast, especially when illuminating signs at night. The older I get (dammit) the more I notice how much easier it is for me to read in really good light. Small type that I can barely make out in low light looks completely clear and crisp in really good light. Whiter light seems to offer a noticeable advantage.

For the record, I've been wearing corrective lenses since I was in the third grade, moving from glasses to contacts at age 20, back to glasses about 90% of the time (contacts the other 10%) around age 40 and finally had Lasik at age 47. Now I just wear reading glasses as needed - I can read a magazine without reading glasses if I'm outside in bright sunlight, for example.

I've read D. Stern's postings before. I installed SilverStars in my Tahoe 2 years ago and the difference was immediate and obvious-whiter and brighter. I replaced first one low beam bulb with my brother in law attending. We both agreed it was a superior bulb. I went back to Advance Auto and bought a second, installed it and we again agreed it was even better.
Later that night, my wife hands me a $7 bulb she bought the day before and told me "there's a headlight out". Over the next hour we swapped the lows and highs on the dark road in front of his house and concluded that these "SilverStars" were superior. In both color (whiter) and distance.

BTW, the bulb she handed me was an OEM Sylvania. Just like the ones from GM.

And the kicker is-they (SilverStar Ultras) have lasted 2 years! Go figure.

yes i know with my dim lights well low beam it is very hard to see out in front of the car , i was going to adjust them up higher but if you you can get a brighter with silver star i will go with that and not change anything from the factory there has been no front end damage

And yes it is always good practice to change out both lights at the same time if they are your low beams change both of them. Thank you for your heads up.
