Carbon Fiber Rear Diffusers
Re: Carbon Fiber Rear Diffusers
This place is home.. and the vette is "officially" the wife's car.. she turned traitor on the red/vanilla roadster search..
"off topic" over there is entertaining.. fence line is way out there before you cross over it... AND a political forum.. LOL.
Just figured I'd best get in deep with vette's like I have my crossfire or get bit wondering what to do next if something happens... Have noted our stereo systems are a cake walk compared to those though! It's got the LT1 1992 ... enjoying that little bit of umph over mine is a bonus for being mechanic and "upgrade" technician.. LOL.

Re: Carbon Fiber Rear Diffusers
I spoke with a local place about carbon fiber parts but they seem to think that the complex shape of the diffusers would put it in the $700 range for a carbon fiber reproduction.. granted, they haven't seen them in person yet. hopefully meeting with them sometime in June.

Oh.. and the $1,200 dollar check this month says that oil drum isn't quite empty.. But the check was a little on the short side if it makes you feel better..
And just for grins.. Let's throw in the FACT Fubu was a middle man.. guess there's some of them profit dollars in that part alone huh.. So here's a footnote to put in your notes.. going direct to the fabricator reels the price back in.. See how easy that works?

Re: Carbon Fiber Rear Diffusers
Okay guys.. I have a US based carbon fiber fabricator with some interest.. Here's the PM.. I'm hoping maybe I can tell him 15-20 sets.. Let me know.. unless rayth has a solid thing going this is probably going to be our best shot at these.
I think this would be moderate difficulty to make in carbon. Probably a 2 or 3 piece mold. How many people are still interested and at what price point. I think the $300 mark would be the approximate price for this type of part in carbon. I am not familiar with the crossfire so I don't know how big of market this would be.
Thanks,
Brandon

Re: Carbon Fiber Rear Diffusers
I was under the impression the other non-mopar replicas do not fit well because they are very rigid. I am also under the impression that carbon, especially with complex curves, is going to be very rigid. I would want a test fit before signing up for 15-20
Just a thought...

I think we can agree since our rear bumper covers aren't a stamped steel piece.. there is going to be some variations to a degree, and some tolerance on the fit would have to be accepted. I've also noted some were complaining of the fiberglass fit, while others found it acceptable. There's nothing in this for me unless my customs get trashed by a tail ender, Just trying to get something on the table and give us back this option.
Guess this pretty much opens it to a "yes".. I can deal with a little fudging if required or "no" if it's not absolutely perfect I don't want them. I don't expect anyone to take them and have to use a caulk gun to fill in the cracks here..

Count me in for a set if he can be near the $300 target, ± $30
Cheers,
