has anyone had a corneal ulcer
this is caused by a bacteria infection in the eye... usually with soft contact wearers (which i am)...
i have lost nearly all vision in my right eye ... and was bed-ridden wednesday & thursday due to the excruciating pain. the pain has since gone away but the vision has not returned as of yet. i visited my optometrist immediately at the onset of my blurred vision... i was put on antibiotic (drops) on tuesday... with no improvement... on friday i was sent to an ophthalmologist (same findings) and introduced to steroids (drops) and a revised antibiotic.
another follow-up appointment tomorrow (sunday)... they say i will get my complete vision back. but as expected, i'm quite worried.
i was wanting to know if anyone else has experienced this in the past.
thanks for any insight.

I don't but one of my friends did! He waited to long before going to the doc, and almost lost his vision. It was quite a while before it came back to normal. Hang in there! I believe it was 15 or so days.
Andrew,
No corneal ulcer, but I have Diabetic Retinopathy. Also went nearly blind about 4 years ago. I have amazed my doctors with a near perfect recovery. That was one of the reasons I decided it was time to get that sports car a few years back.
Losing one's sight is nothing to make light of. Thankfully there have been a number of breakthroughs that allow many of us to keep our vision.
Glad you caught it early, I am sure you will recover just fine. Gotta love high tech and those wonderful doctors.
My best,
Karl

just back from the doctor... a 25% improvement from friday according to them (still seems very blurry to me). i will be going for a follow-up visit on tuesday... any improvement is a blessing.
for any soft contact wearers... be sure to remove your contacts nightly (even if contact company states otherwise)... this will eliminate the chances of this happening to you.
i was removing mine weekly for cleaning and apparently this wasn't enough.

Andrew... sorry to hear about your problem.
I had the same problem about five years ago in Silverton, CO while we were up there four wheeling. Yes,
it was very, very painful. The white of my eye became blood red within hours of the infection. It puffed out
over the iris and my eye was very sensitive to light. It took me 12 hours to get home with the wife driving
through the night. I saw two doctors the next day. I went through the same med regiment you're going
through.
As for sight after the infection... it depends on where the scar from the infection forms. Mine formed right
at the bottom of the iris at about the 7:00 position. I have blurred vision in that eye now... sorta like when
your eyes tears up or when you're looking underwater without goggles. Because of the location of the scar,
it distorts the light going to the pupil of my eye causing blurred vision. If I squint and cover the scar, my vision
is good, but I can't go through life squinting with one eye all the time.
My vision in that eye is a blurred 20/40. My cornea specialist will not consider a cornea transplant because
there is not much of a chance the vision would be corrected that much after the surgery. So I'm stuck with
what vision I have left in that eye.
Good luck with your issue, and I truly hope your eye heals without leaving a scar that will affect your vision...
