2004 crossfire extended warranty
hello! just bought a 2004 crossfire at a mitsubishi dealership. went in to trade in my eclipse and fell in love with the crossfire which someone just traded in. anyways, i bought an extended warranty, with gap insurance, and tire & wheel protection. i've heard so many different opinions on whether an extended warranty is worth the money or not. so i wanted to ask other crossfire owners if their experience with extended warranties has been good or bad? does the crossfire need a lot of maintenance? my extended warranty is with Compass, but i'm considering backing out and picking up an extended warranty directly through Chrysler, or just going without an extended warranty. my crossfire still has a few months left of its original factory warranty...thanks for your opinions!
Why didn't you just purchase the car through Chrysler dealership. they offer a lifetime warrantee for free, and what ever is left on the 3yr/36,000 Bumper to bumper?
I've only used my warrantee for the headlamp oxidation and transmission synchro update. but other than that I have the 7yr/70k drivetrain warrantee.
It's a sports car and they always require work no matter what manufacture. Other than tires, brakes, clutch, oil and gas, there shouldn't be too many issues you couldn't solve yourself.

i went to the mitsubishi dealership wanting to trade my eclipse in for another eclipse. the crossfire was a surprise. plus mitsubishi gave me a great deal on my trade in. thanks for your reply...anyone else have some advice?
Check the following link and compare it to what you purchased.

Make sure to compare the details and associated costs.
If you thought it was important to have the extended warranty for peace of mind then I think you should trust your "gut".

Check with Chrysler to see when the car was first licensed. If you fall within the 36,000 - 36 month warranty a Chrysler dealership will sell you a 7/70 powertrain warranty for $150. If you are under 36,000 miles you might be surprised by when it was first licensed.

As this was a used '04, Chrysler is not going to give anyone a free Lifetime Warranty. I think it's best to go with the Chrysler MaxiCare warranty. Mine had mileage about 36K when I bought it so I got the used car MaxiCare warranty. It covers everything for 5 years or 50K miles from the date of MY purchase. I'm good until 94K miles or Feb. 2012. I believe that there is plenty that can go wrong - I had the "humming noise" coming from the rear end and they have ordered a replacement rear differential for the car. I understand from another thread on this forum that this repair alone is over $3,000. I'll let you know how it goes.
i will go with the maxcare chrysler warrenty when i buy only because it is a mercedes and they are expensive to fix. my friend had a compass extended warrenty on her jeep wrangler. she had to get the trans replaced and the warrenty didn't cover the whole job. i forgot their explanation as to why but i know it was not anything to do with driver neglect but the way the warrenty is and the job ended up being $1,800 total and she had to fork over $900 even with the warrenty.
Don't know the specifics of her issue but she still saved $900 which is probably more than half the cost of the warranty. One more repair and the warranty will look like one of the best investments she ever made...

I purchased a warranty for 5 years/75,000 miles and can have my car serviced at any certified repair center. When I need warranty work I will be taking it to a Benz Dealer and not a Chrysler dealer.
I paid $1,600. My deductible is $100 per claim.
follow zorro's advice above and go to a Chrysler dealership and see if you can transfer the 7/70 powertrain warranty.
otherwise, self insurance is the best option if you can afford the cost of an unlikely but expensive repair. over the course of a lifetime of car ownership, the odds of having a net cost benefit from purchasing extended service plans is about the same as winning the lottery.

If you have the 7/70 power train warranty it cost a lot less to buy the long term warranty because they know Chrysler is on the hook for the big stuff. I bought my car a 2004 Limited in July with 17,000 miles. Because of when the car was first licensed my (new car warranty) runs till next February. This let me buy the 7/70 for $150. I think it took at least a grand off my long term warranty.

OK here's the deal, I think. I purchased a 2005 srt 6 that did come with the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty, when I was purchasing the dealer said I can transfer the 7/70 powertrain warranty as long as I did it within 30 days and the fee would be $150 dollars. But it was too late for them to do it because Chrysler was now closed. I purchased the car and the next day I called Chrysler and they said that there's NO 7/70 for the srt 6 crossfires. Did you guys know that you only have the 3/36 unless you purchase Chryslers extended warrenty? I guess now I have a fight on my hands with the dealer. I'll keep you all posted on this issue. Also If this was a Chrysler certified used car then it would have come with the 8/80 warranty like my 2005 srt6 convertible did.
