Yeah...Texas-sized!!! BIG! Happy Thanksgiving to ya!
By the way...what is your car? Mine is an '05 Blaze Red 5-speed automatic Limited Roadster w/ black leather & I JUST ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! Every time I drive it, it's like the 1st time I've ever driven it! I've had it over a yr now. Since they aren't built anymore, I guess if I wear it out, I'll be so spoiled that I'll have to step up to a Big Boy car & get a full-tilt Mercedes!!!

Mine is a 2004 and has olive green interior. It has some nice custom wheels on it that I like. I think there's a pic of it on my profile. I'm trying to enjoy the car but, honestly, it makes me nervous because of how expensive the repairs can be. I do have to agree with what someone else said here that these cars are very well-made and have very solid engines. I try to enjoy it but I'll feel a lot more comfortable when it's paid off. I'm not sure what I'll do at that point - either keep it or sell it and buy something and pay cash for it. Have a happy gobble day!
All you will get is everyone telling you what they think it might be on this, But in therory not to many people know what the hell they are talking about.
1st thing was you bought a piece of **** car
2nd good luck at finding any help most Chrysler Stelerships have no idea how to work on these cars.

But it's not always expensive, my CEL came on last fall --- I found it, I'd let water trickle down on the gas tank connector during top-down washes. The ground wire on the pressure sensor got corroded, causing a false high pressure indication. Some rubbing alcohol and q-tips fixed it, took about an hour.

Was is Ben Franklin who said it is often wiser to be silent and thought a fool than to speak out and prove it.

In today's world, spending $600 or more dollars to get a light to go out on a car is common. I'ts due to all the EPA B.S. on EVERY car made. Our only defense is to learn as much about these cars as we can, and hope to find a local shop that is somewhat honest.

Time to start up this old thread again. My 05 won't pass inspection because it won't complete the emissions test in Massachusetts. There is no code given and my check engine light is not on. I was told the probable cause was the battery went dead or was disconnected so I had to drive it 50 miles or more to reset the onboard computer, so I did. I brought it back with 100 more miles driven and the inspecton machine could not complete the emissions test. I drove 200 more miles and bought it back again and still no sticker. Does anyone know if 300 miles is enought to reset the computer, or as a regional GM service tech (friend of mine) said to bring it to a Chrysler dealer so they can hook it up to their diagnostic computer and it should tell me what the problem is and it might just need to have the onboard computer reflashed. Any thoughts? I'm told there is 3 months left on my emissions warrantee, but since it sounds like this might be a computer problem it won't be covered.
I have done a lot of research into my problem and found out some interesting info I'll share with the rest of you if you are interested. I haven't been able to get a sticker because of the the catalyst monitor and the evap monitor test are not complete. Probable cause was the battery cable was disconnected when the car was put in storage. The owner's manual says that if you turn the ignition to ON without starting the car so all the lights are on, including the check engine light, wait approx 15 seconds if the check engine light flashes that means the tests are not complete. If it stays on steady the whole time the tests are complete. I have not tried this yet, but I will soon.
The Chrysler dealer wasn't much help, he said what most people say and that is to drive the car over 50 miles and the cycles should be complete. I've gone 300 and the test still have not completed. So I called a Mercedes dealer and told the service manager I had a 2005 SLK320 disguised as a Chrysler Crossfire. The service manager chuckled and proceeded to help me. He told me that I had to complete the Evap test that I had to drive the car for 30 miles at a steady speed of 50 mph when the gas tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full. I'll be testing that out when it stops raining and I burn off some gas, I just filled it again. At the same time the catalyst test should complete as well.

I just failed the inspection today (6-08-12) for the second time. First time I had a error code that had to do with the air pump. I fixed it a few days ago, cleared the computer, and drove it for about 30 miles with no luck. Did the Mercedes service manager's advice work?
I drove my car for 30 minutes at 55 to 60 mph and stopped and checked the car and the cat and evap test still had not cleared so I drove back home for 30 minutes at 55 mph and checked the car again and the cat test completed but the evap test did not. In MA you can pass the inspection with one test not complete so I was able to get a sticker. I haven't driven the car much since I got the sticker but I will check it again to see if the evap test as completed yet. I bought a code reader so I could check the car so that is how I knew I completed the cat test and not the evap test. Turning on the key and waiting 15 seconds doesn't seem to work for me. My check engine light stays on solid the whole time. That could be because the car did not fail anything it just had not completed two of the monitor tests. With out a code reader I don't know how people are suppose to know when the test are completed?
