Default My Two Favorite Machines

On the way home from Church today, I happened by a local private airfield. The guy who owns the fields also owns his own VERY cool toy - an original WWII-era DC3!

I asked at the gift shop if I could drive out and take some pics of my car next to the plane, the lady said, "No one has ever asked to do that before... I don't see why not."

I only had my BlackBerry phone with me, and it doesn't like strong Sunlight so my contrast is crap, but still....

As most of your know, the 3.2L engine in our cars has 195 cubic inch displacement (CID). The original engines of the DC3 were a nine cylinder monster with 1823 CID (That's 202 CID in each CYLINDER!)

Later, they used almost the same size engine overall,(1830 CID) but with 14 cylinders. The plane pictured has the later engines: 14 cylinders of 130 CID each (if you look closely, you can count 7 cylinders - there is a bank of 7 more behind them.)

Two WONDERFUL and GORGEOUS machines. The DC3 has always been my favorite plane, and you ALL know the Crossfire is my favorite four wheeled vehicle.

The Douglas DC3 was a nice transport in it's time. But not in the Crossfire class. No fun... I like theJ3 Piper. It is fun and I could afford it. Gary

They are OK to look at, but when you have flown in one you are not too fond of them at all.
The WW2 version was called the Dakota of course and did heroic service in the war and the Berlin airlift, I'm just showing my age.
